Q:I understand it has 4 conductors but wasn't too verify it has a ground wire because I can't tell from the pictures.

Answer This Question

A:  The 4th conductor (green) is the ground wire. Black, red, white and green is for ground. It is confusing because some wire nomenclature would designate this as 10-3 with ground. They may do it this way because it is not a bare wire and could feasibly be used for something else (like a control wire) where a ground is not required.

by|Sep 13, 2019

A:  Green wire would be considered the ground wire. 2 hots, 1 common, and a ground.

    by|Sep 11, 2019

A:  55812699 is a standard 10awg 4 conductor SJOOW cord. The 4 phase colors are Black, White, Red, & Green. The green would be used as the ground. It only has 4 conductors and not a separate ground. It contains 2 hots, a neutral, and an equipment grounding conductor. The above advice is based upon the current edition of the National Electric Code (NEC). Free access to the latest version of the NEC is available online at www.nfpa.org/freeaccess. The NEC and local building codes regulate the types of wire and cable that can be used in specific electrical applications, as well as the manner of installation. Check your local building codes before you start any wiring and cable electrical project and be sure to obtain required permits. When your work is complete, always have it inspected for compliance with local codes to ensure that it has been safely installed.

A:  Generally 10awg (10awg-4conductor) is good for 30 amps and 12awg is good for 20 amps. The 4 conductors would allow you to use this on a 240 volt system (2 hot, 1 neutral and a ground wire)

                      Answer This Question

A:  The outside diameter is 3/4 inch... you could strip the outside rubber jacket and go thru the liquid tight ...you shouldn't need Liquid tite and SJOOW cord both are water tight..

                      by|May 5, 2023

A:  The outside diameter of the 10-4 cord is 640 mils or .64 inches. You would need a larger connector than 1/2. The above advice is based upon the current edition of the National Electric Code (NEC). Free access to the latest version of the NEC is available online at www.nfpa.org/freeaccess. A:  What you probably saw in the store was type SOOW cord, versus this which is type SJOOW. Type SO cord is rated for up to 600 volts, and is a thicker more durable insulation, while SJO is thinner and 300 volts max. Both will work fine for your application, one would just be more durable.

A:  It's not meant for direct burial ..for that you need UF cable ... SJOOW is a appliance plug made for safe handling when handled while it's a live circuit .
