A:  Riser cable is NOT designed for outdoor use. I have been doing this 24 years and I have seen it used that way but riser cable is only designed for indoor behind wall installation.

A:  Probably ok, but not rated for outdoor use and may not last. Better to use RG6 that’s rated for outdoor use.

A:  This cable was purchased for an inside project. However, I will say that my cable company ran coax cable (their brand) about 250 feet on top of the ground to my house from the power pole. I buried a portion of it in a slit trench, but at least half of it lays on top of the ground in a wooded area. Its been doing fine for over five years now (hope I haven't jinxed myself).

A:  By the way, if the wire is run on top of the ground, it’s ok to use. If underground, you should use direct burial RG6

                                      Answer This Question

A:  This is your standard CAT5e cable without shielding. The only time you will need shielded cable is if you are running in an extreme electrical or RFI interference environments. The cost is usually twice as much, it is much thicker and difficult to run due to the shielded wrapping. I have used this cable for years with no problems.

A:  Shielded as in what , is there a cover over it sure..... is each pair shielded , no and it doesnt need to be , it has been shown that the extra shielding does exactly NOTHING to help attenuation or noise for cabling . Literally scientifically proven
