Answer This Question
A: The LUS28 is rated with 0.148" x 3" nails (6 to the header, 4 to the joist). As an alternative, it can be installed with our Strong-Drive® SD Connector Screws - a quantity of 6 SD9212 to the header and 4 - SD9112 to the joist. Being that you mention a deck, please visit the Corrosion section of our website (https://www.strongtie.com/solutions/corrosion) for complete information and recommendations for both connector and fastener finishes for potentially corrosive environments (i.e. exterior, treated wood, etc.). Thank you!

A: The LUS28 can be installed with either 10d common nails (0.148" diameter x 3" long) or the SD Structural Connector screw: a quantity of 4 - SD9212 screws to the joist and a quantity of 6 - SD9112 screws to the face. The installation with the SD screws has higher allowable loads. Thank you!

A: You can also use code approved screws not from Simpson. I use GRK R 4 series. There are others. Do not use "deck screws" which are typically made to hold down your deck boards and are NOT designed to put together the deck structure itself.
