Answer This Question
A: Hello Hubert, There are several differences between PF26 and LB26 hangers but in general LB hangers are heavier duty than PF hangers. LB is made of heavier gauge steel and uses larger nails. Regards

A: The PF model is 18ga steel, LB is 14ga. So the PF is thinner. Look at the Simpson site for engineering data on load ratings for the two different hangers.

Q:When I attach the hanger to 2 x 12 ledger board the Joist is higher then the top of the ledger board by 1/8”.

Answer This Question
A: Simpson Strong-Tie manufactures our top-flange hangers to be approximately 1/8” shallower than the specified joist depth. The joist depth will shrink as the moisture content drops after installation. Having the top of the joist slightly higher than the ledger or header allows the joist to remain flush or slightly higher than the header after shrinkage has occurs. Thank you!

Q:Will this hold green treated 2 x 12 that actually measures 1 1/2” x 11”?

Answer This Question
A: Yes, a 2 x 12 is the size of the wood before removal of the bark sawing and drying of the lumber, thus after milling the final piece of wood is 1 1/2 x 11 1/4.

Q:We're trying to build a base for our new garden shed, using 2 x 6 x 8 pressure treated lumber. I used 2 x 6 top flange joist hangers and nailed them in place on 16" centers. When we dropped the 2 x 6 joists into place, none of them were flush with the boards the joist hangers were nailed to; all of them were approx.1/8" too tall.

Answer This Question
A: We size and rate our hangers based on dry lumber. The sizes are based on industry standards of what is typical for shrinkage when the lumber dries. Thank you!
