A: Hi Em2012, this is Ricardo from Simpson Strong-Tie. For beam widths of 3-1/8 up to 4-1/2", 5/8" diameter bolts are to to be used with the ECC style column cap as shown here on this product page: https://www.strongtie.com/boltedcolumncaps_columncaps/cc-ecc-eccu_productgroup_wcc/p/cc.ecc.eccu
If you are looking to use screws, then you would be looking for a model number with a Q in it, such as an ECCQ. All of the CCQ and ECCQ style column caps require 1/4"x2-1/2" SDS screws (model number SDS25212).
If we can be of further assistance, please call our technical service team at 800.999.5099.

Q:Does this need to be hot dipped galvanized if I am installing in an exterior condition? If I cover the Cap with metal flashing, does it still need to be Hot Dipped Galvanized?

Answer This Question
A: Hello, this is McKenzie with Simpson Strong-Tie. Since this is a welded product, the base material is raw steel. The stock product is powder coated and considered a low corrosion resistance coating. We recommend HDG in high corrosive environments. If the powder coating or any flashing is chipped away where the raw steel comes in contact with moisture, corrosion will follow. We also offer some of our column caps in stainless steel for the highest corrosion protection.

Q:Hello, I have 6x6 cedar posts that I want to put a 6x6 cedar beam onto. The actual measurement is about 6.125" for this lumber. Will this product work in this application? I believe it is for 5.25 to 5.5" lumber. Or is there something else I should use?

Answer This Question
A: I am not sure if there is a typo here, but this cap cannot be used with a 2x2. If actually using a triple 2x10 over a 6x post, please see the ECC4.62-5.50 which has a 4 5/8" width for the beam and 5 1/2" width for the post. Thank you!
