Q:Is there a maximum size for 2x beams on top. Can I use double 2x10 or 2x8.? Or will they be too long and want to twist. This is for a deck. Will more bracing be needed to prevent twisting?

A:  Hi There, this is Ricardo with Simpson Strong-Tie. Thank you for utilizing Simpson BCS Connector. It is acceptable to use BCS with Double 2x8 or 2x10 joists. However, they will need to be supported against torsion (out of plan). If you have further questions, please reach out to our Customer Service team by calling 800-999-5099.

A:  Depends on the 4x4 some are 3&1/2 inches others Are smaller. What is the inside dimension of the sleeve?

A:  The fit of the "Simpson Strong-Tie BCS Galvanized Post Cap for Double 2x Beam, 4x Post: to the 4x4 lumber was pretty tight. I don't know the inside diameter of a Trex post but if they still have the 'ribs' on the inside of the Trex Post Sleeve t should work. If you are using lag bolts it might be too tight. Good luck!

A:  Hello Mike, this is Efrain with Simpson Strong-Tie. We are not familiar with the dimensions of the TREX post sleeve but after doing some research and looking at drawings of the BCS Post Cap. One could assume that the post sleeve should be able to slide over the post cap. However, we cannot guarantee that it would work. Another option you could do is contact TREX and see what they recommend for this application. If not, you may contact us at (800) 999-5099 and we can discuss this further. We look forward to speaking with you. Thank you

Q:The description says it can be used as a post base. Is this accurate? I assume I can dip it into a fresh concrete footing for post anchoring? If so, how reliable is this as a post base?

A:  The BCS is strictly a cap and only for use with wood beams to wood posts. In our catalog, the BCS is on the page with the BC/BCO caps/bases so I'm guessing the content was just copied over. We will work with The Home Depot to get this corrected. Thank you!

A:  HD offers Model# BC6Z for 6x6 post. I used double beams 2x8 for my deck, which I built in 2015. For this bigger post cap/base, you may have to use triple beams. It's better that you go with 6x6 post anyway, since most city's building code have increased the post size to be 6x6 instead of 4x4 for better structural support. Attached picture was just taken today for your viewing.

A:  The BCS post cap is intended to carry a beam over a post (not posts end-to-end). The BCS is not available for 6x to 6x members. We do not manufacture a product we can recommend to splice a post/column end-to-end. Some people may attempt such a connection by sandwiching the joint with flat plates or wood pieces, but the design and performance of such a connection would have to be determined by the designer/engineer of record. Thank you!

                      Answer This Question

A:  The difference is the finish - the BCS2-2/4 has the standard G90 galvanized finish which provides a low level of corrosion protection and the BCS2-2/4Z has the Z-MAX G185 galvanized finish which provides a medium level of corrosion protection. Please see the Corrosion section of our website for the recommended finish based on your application: https://www.strongtie.com/solutions/corrosion. Thank you!

Q:All images shown have a beam going across only, and it receiving all 8 screws. So if I have a pair joining on this post cap, and I centered them that obv wouldn't work because then each would only receive 1 screw apiece (the center holes would not attach to anything. Do I stagger them so that one side gets 1 screw and the other 3 and alternate across the length of my beam (40ft length with posts every 8ft)?

A:  The BCS is sized specifically for multi-2x widths, but those would be continuous beams (cannot accomodate a splice condition within the cap). Thank you!
