A:  Hi Dezi, This is made of a breathable polyethylene which allows rain to pass through as to not collect water. If you are looking for a waterproof shade, unfortunately, this will not work for your application. Thank you

A:  No. It will take a while for rain to come through if it raining lightly, but it will eventually come through. This is a thick weaved product very durable and great quality.

              Answer This Question

A:  You do need something sturdy to tie the ends to. I have several of these. I bought 1/2 inch thick, 10 foot metal poles, inserted them into the chain link fence poles, and that worked, but they do bend a bit. The others I tied eyelets I screwed into the garage overhang, etc. When the wind hits these, they put quite a bit of pressure on whatever they're tied to, so keep that in mind.
