Q:Can this be used to connect between SharkBite Silcock valve and PEX piping?

      Answer This Question

A:  In general it can.  It depends a little on the type of valve.  If it has the same size shark bite fitting, this elbow can be used after a section of PEX. If the valve has pipe threads or is meant for solder, then you need the correct adapter to transition to PEX.

A:  The sharkbite fittings will handle 200 degrees fine, but PEX is limited to 180 degrees at its rated pressure, and not to exceed 200 degrees. Be sure to set boiler to the 180 limit for best pipe lifetime.

A:  Yes. I don't see why not. One of the special things about Sharkbite is that they are universal. Just make sure you clean, blur and use the depth tool for the pipe you are putting the fitting on.

A:  It may depend on the code in your area. I did use on my line but we used it at least 2 feet away from the actual tank - we kept the initial 1st copper turn that was there on the prior tank.. It seems to be working very well right now. Good luck.

A:  Its a pipe. A bent pipe. Great for all your piping hot needs. Handle the pipe with two hands to avoid discomfort in wrists. Always use protection when handling your pipe.

A:  It can handle the water temperature, cold inlet and hot outlet, without problems (and is rated so). The only real concern is the type of tubing you use it with; Sharkbite fittings hold onto the outside of the pipe and are sized to fit copper, CPVC and PEX tubing. All of those have the same outside diameter for a given nominal size and will work with these fittings.

A:  Any of those will work. As long as your copper pipe is round with no lumps of solder the Sharkbite will work with no leaks. Sharkbites are expensive but they sure make plumbing simple and easy. Good luck!

A:  Fine grit sandpaper or emery cloth can be used to clean and prepare the outer surfaces of copper pipes for Shark-bite push-to-connect fittings. Cut the sandpaper or emery cloth approximately 1" in width and long enough to easily wrap around the circumferance of the copper pipe to be prepared. Tightly wrap and rotate the sandpaper or emery cloth around the outside end of the pipe to be prepared until the end of the copper pipe has a bright and smooth finish and all rough surfaces and burrs have been removed from the end of the copper pipe. This is similar to preparing the end of a copper pipe for sweat soldering prior to applying flux to the pipe for soldering. Fine texture steel wool can also be used to clean the ends of copper pipes, but it is easier and faster to use fine grit sandpaper or emery cloth. Make sure to use a clean and damp cloth to remove any remaining dirt or residue from the prepared outside ends of a copper pipe. Also make sure that the end of the copper pipe is cut square. Any sharp burrs or pitted areas or indentations on the end of a copper pipe will not allow the o-ring seal on Shark-bite fittings to seal correctly which can cause leaks.
