Q:I have a new concrete floor in my garage that has been sealed. I want to epoxy paint the floor, can I use the Lock down product first before coating with an epoxy paint.

Answer This Question
A: Happy to clear things up! If the floor was finished with a penetrating sealer, Rust-Oleum Seal Krete Lock-Down Binding Primer will not properly adhere. This product can also only be used with other one-part water-based products, and we do not recommend topcoating with a two-part epoxy. Instead, Rust-Oleum Concrete and Garage Recoat Primer may be a better option. Please keep in mind, new concrete does need time to fully cure before coating.

Q:Can this be used on a basement floor? The TDS says "do not use below grade".

Answer This Question
A: Happy to clear things up, Cherry! Rust-Oleum Seal Krete Lock-Down Concrete Bonding Primer can be used on basement floors. The warning on the TDS pertains to surfaces that will have direct contact with soil, such as exterior facing walls that are below ground. The constant exposure to moisture and high humidity from the soil would cause the primer, and any topcoat, to blister and peel. This product can be used on interior facing walls and floors.

Answer This Question
A: Happy to help, George. The Rust-Oleum Seal-Krete Lock-Down Primer can be applied under the Rust-Oleum Concrete & Garage Recoat Primer after allowing at least 2 hours. However, applying both of these primer together would not be necessary. Please keep in mind as well that any bare concrete will need to be etched first to ensure adhesion. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5
