        Answer This Question

A:  No, it is only for pothole repairs no greater than 2 ft in either direction in asphalt driveways.

        by|May 4, 2023

A:  Not recommended- this is a product made for patching holes and cracks in existing asphalt. It needs a hard base and needs to be compacted very well to stay intact.

Q:Your web-page says this product is not available in my local north Raleigh, NC store or any other Home Depot within a hundred miles. I think a few bags of either Quikrete or Sakrete cold blacktop repair would do the job for me. The price (around $12 or $14 per 50# bag) sounds reasonable but I don't want to spend a fortune having it shipped in from afar. Why isn't it stocked here? Can you order me some for store pickup without a shipping charge?

A:  Yes, I have used US cold patch over the last several years on multiple cracked areas of driveway as well as to even out depressions and it has worked very well for me. After a couple months you can even use driveway sealer on it. I actually like the product very much for this purpose.

Q:I used cold patch to cover an area 2' x 20'. In hindsight, I probably should have used hot asphalt to save $. I used a tamper and water filled roller to compact it. I have it down 2 days now and it's still somewhat loose. How long does it take to harden?

A:  US Cold Patch hardens as it is tamped and therefore compacted. The base under US Cold Patch has to be sound, that is, hard.

A:  I patched a hole 2' x 2' that was about 4" deep. That was 2 months ago. Even with lots of daily traffic it has yet to harden. It appears it never will.

A:  The US Cold Patch should only be used in areas no greater than 3' x 3' and should be contained on all sides. If it is used in a larger area than recommended the material will continue to displace instead of compact. It may not ever fully harden because of the fact that it is constantly displacing itself. In areas greater than 3' x 3' we would always recommend a hot patch be installed.

A:  The answer that Sakrete gave was a cheap answer. The man already put the product down and was looking for an answer, not a cheap shot. We have used a different brand (QPR) and are having the same problem. But, we drove our car over it on plywood, and even though it was not solid right after we applied it, it is firmer 24 hours later. The company said it would take 14 days to cure, so we are going to wait for 13 more days before we panic. I would suggest that you drive your car over plywood and stay off the asphalt for a week. Good luck. Dave

A:  The U.S. Cold Patch cannot be used for this type of repair. The maximum length of your repair can only be 3' x 3' in either direction. This span is too great and the material will displace and not compact properly. You should use a hot patch for this repair.
