Q:Can you apply to new green pressure treated lumber?

    Answer This Question

A:  No, Ken. New wood should age for a minimum of 6 months before applying Rust-Oleum Restore 10X Advanced Deck and Concrete Resurfacer. The lumber must be dry completely before applying the product to prevent peeling of the coating. The surface must also be properly cleaned and prepared using Restore Deck & Concrete Cleaner to remove all foreign material and mill glaze prior to application. Follow the preparation instructions to ensure the Restore 10X Advanced adheres properly to the wood.

Q:How long is it before you need to repaint?

      Answer This Question

A:  We painted our deck with the first Rustoleum Restore product and it lasted almost 5yrs. I feel that it would've lasted longer if we had done a couple things differently. A. You must prep really scrub or pressure washer the area. Check for loose boards and boards with deep screw holes. I also did minimal sanding and wood filler for really deep gouges. It's worth it. Also, when we did our deck the first time there was no such product as the primer or vertical surface stain. So we did our entire deck rails & all with restore which for our needs worked out well. However,if I had to do it all again I would've used the primer & tinted stain. We did not use the special rollers we used cheap ones that we had from previous projects. Which didn't get us as much texture. Fine for our needs. Also, TWO coats the first time we used the product we did 1 coat. Two coats and I think we could've waited another year or two.

        Answer This Question

A:  No. Rust-Oleum has answered this question from others in the past. They say this is ONLY for outdoor use on level flat (not vertical) surfaces.

A:  You should probably check with the Rustoleum. THis is an extremely thick ;paint, takes alot to dry even outdoors. I wouldn't use it indoors, but what do I know?

Q:How many sq ft coverage per gal? How many coats are required to get a fist class deck?

        Answer This Question

A:  TWO coats are REQUIRED or it won't seal properly and will flake off. At 2 coats I got about 25 to 30 square feet per gallon. However, I used their textured roller. A regular roller (not their brand name) would probably make it go further, though with less surface texture.

A:  One gallon covers about 80 square ft. Two coats is preferable, tho you could probably get away with one depending on condition of your deck and proper preparation with primer. Am looking at my deck now--could not be more pleased. It is gorgeous and very sturdy cover. I used two coats as I don't want to do this again for a long time.
