Q:Can the decorative flecks be added to this product? I want to use the epoxy paint with flecks on a covered patio - but it says it's not suitable for outdoor use. It's covered and only gets morning sun - should I use the porch coating or can I use the epoxy?

    Answer This Question

A:  We appreciate your interest, Andy! The Rust-Oleum Porch & Floor Coating is suitable for use on wood and concrete surfaces. We don't recommend applying it to fiberglass because it will not adhere properly. Instead, we recommend using Rust-Oleum Marine Coatings Topside Paint, which can be applied to fiberglass. https://www.homedepot.com/s/marine%2520topside?NCNI-5 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

Rust-Oleum Porch and Floor Coating Paint is an oil-modified acrylic paint designed to provide excellent color retention, adhesion and protection against UV rays, water damage, and mildew on both wood and concrete surfaces. A:  John, our 1-gal. Dove Gray Anti-Skid Satin 50 VOC Coating should work on some concrete surfaces that have aggregate added, however, some heavy aggregate surfaces may be too non-porous to provide good adhesion.

A:  Great question, Trent! Yes, our 1-gal. Dove Gray Anti-Skid Satin 50 VOC Coating can be applied over this coating. Make sure that all loose or peeling epoxy has been removed, and it is a good idea to scuff-sand the surface prior to cleaning to ensure good adhesion to the surface.

                  Answer This Question

A:  Yes, our Dove Gray Anti-Skid Satin 50 VOC Coating can be used on your boat deck. We recommend removing any adhesive used for the carpet, and the wood should be lightly sanded with 50 grit sandpaper then cleaned to ensure the coating will adhere well to the surface. Allow the coating to dry for at least 72 hours prior to putting the boat back on the water.

                    Answer This Question

A:  Apply with a high quality nylon/polyester bristle brush, short nap paint/stain pad or roller or an airless sprayer (do not use a pump sprayer). Brushing is the preferred method, especially for rough sawn wood. When rolling or spraying, make sure to back-brush along the grain. This will eliminate any drips, runs, uneven coverage or surface puddles. To minimize lap marks maintain a wet edge. If using more than one gallon, intermix all cans of the same product to ensure color uniformity

                      Answer This Question

A:  Great question! Rust-Oleum coatings, including Rust-Oleum Porch and Floor Coating, are unleaded and safe for use on toys and furniture. The cautions on the cans refer to the liquid form of the paint and are driven by the solvents in the paint. Once the paint is fully cured, the solvents have evaporated and are no longer in the coating; the remaining coating is a combination of solids made of pigments and additives bound by the resin and can be considered non-hazardous. This product is suitable for use on interior wood and concrete floor surfaces!
