A: We can help you, Barbie! We don't recommend applying Rust-Oleum Automotive High Heat Spray on to surfaces that are exposed to direct heat or flames because this will cause the paint to blister and peel off. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

Q:Will this work on a brass fireplace cover and brass wall sconces? If yes, should I sand both and/or use primer?

Answer This Question
A: Great question, Morgan! Our Automotive High Heat Spray Paint may be used on interior and exterior metal surfaces that will reach temperatures up to 2000°F. Sanding the surface prior to applying the coating will provide the best adhesion; priming is not recommended. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

Q:Will this work on engines? i.e. motorcycle engine?

Answer This Question
A: It should work on an engine, provided all traces of oil and scale and dirt are removed before application.
by|May 6, 2023
A: Yes. Rust-Oleum Automotive High Heat is often used for applications to engines. Be sure to follow the heat curing process closely in order for the paint to dry/cure properly. (Run the vehicle at idle for 10 minutes and then allow 20 minutes to cool. Run vehicle at idle for 20 minutes, then let cool for 20 minutes. Run vehicle at normal operating conditions for 30 minutes, then allow the vehicle to cool.)

A: It was designed for it. It's been a few years since I had my GT550, but I painted the whole engine with RustOleum High-Heat to set off components. The only place it had issues (and needed to be touched up occasionally) was on the expansion pipes on the half inch or so as they left the cylinders (and the ceramacoating there had worn off... so you know that it was a tough place for a coating to live). Stuff is great.

Answer This Question
A: Happy to help! Rust-Oleum Automotive High Heat Enamel Spray Paint is suitable for use surfaces subject to intermittent heat up to 2,000°F. Please keep in mind that this coating will have to go through a heat cycle and be able to reach 600°F to fully cure. Instead, we recommend Rust-Oleum Specialty High Heat Paint may be better suited for your application since the surface only needs to be heated to well above 200°F to fully cure the coating.

Q:Can I use this paint in a non-high heat paint application? Flat red paint is hard to find.

Answer This Question
A: Once dry, Rust-Oleum High Heat must be further cured to increase durability. This involves a process of baking at high temperatures to completely cure it. This is not recommended for use on surfaces that are not exposed to high heat because the paint will not be durable/strong without its full curing process. We recommend the use of a Matte clear finish if you wish to make a gloss red into a flat.

Q:Can I use it on my smoker
by|Mar 24, 2016

Answer This Question
A: Yes, Rust-Oleum High Heat Enamel Spray Paint can be applied to a smoker, however, it is important to bake the surface at 250°F for 30 minutes after application and then allow 30 minutes for it to cool. Bake it again at 400°F for another 30 minutes and allow 30 minutes to cool. Then bake at 600°F for 30 minutes and then allow 30 minutes to cool again. For a high heat paint that does not need to be baked for proper adhesion, use Rust-Oleum Specialty High Heat Paint. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Specialty-12-oz-Bar-B-Que-Black-Satin-High-Heat-Spray-Paint-7778830/202315061

Q:Can this be used on a stove? How easy is it to clean the painted surface?

Answer This Question
A: No, because the outside of your stove will not meet the required temperatures to fully cure. Instead, use Rust-Oleum Specialty Appliance Epoxy. This product is designed specifically for interior metal surfaces that do not come into direct contact with heat and is easily washable and moisture resistant.

A: It can definitely be used on a stove and I'm pretty sure that it would clean well. It works great on barbeques, but I don't need to keep 'em looking as nice as I'd want my wood stove looking in the house.

A: Hello Tony!
Thank you for your question!
High heat paint cannot withstand direct flame, so if this is a working fireplace that will have fire burning in it, I would not recommend painting it.
If this is not a working fireplace, you can use it if it is metal.
Also, be aware that adequate ventilation is important when spraying spray paint.
Have a great day!
Christine

A: This paint is meant to be applied to metal. I expect that it will not hold up well applied to fire brick as it is not meant for direct exposure to flame which would be the case with fire brick.

A: Yes I don't see why not. I painted my fireplace grate with it - the high heat product can withstand extreme heat and won't let off toxic fumes. People use it on grills grates as well.
