Q:What is the difference between this (252462 Automotive Gloss Black Enamel) and 292320 Universal Gloss Black Touch-Up Spray Paint and Primer? I am looking to sand down and repaint a 8 inch section of a metal bumper, which would be recommended?

Answer This Question
A: Happy to help Mike. Rust-Oleum Automotive Enamel Spray Paint is an alkyd paint, Rust-Oleum Automotive Universal Touch Up Aerosol is an acrylic paint. While both are excellent paints, we would recommend Automotive Enamel Spray Paint, an alkyd, for your metal bumper.

Q:I am planning to repair & repaint the rusted tow hitch receiver. The instructions recommend use it at 70'F and 50% relative humidity. I'm in New England area with daytime temp. between 40s & 50s. Is it too cold for the project now? Luckily no snow yet.

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for reaching out! If you can find a day when you will have several hours above 50°F during the heat of the day, you could paint the hitch receiver. Temperatures in the 40's will be too cold, and not allow the coating to cure properly. Alternately, you could paint the receiver outside, then bring it into a garage or basement to dry and cure. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

A: Pre-Heat hitch in oven, torch, etc. If necessary. Spray out outside and then bring in after cooling. Shouldn't take more that 5 minutes. I would say heat to 350 ⁰ but spray at 150⁰to 175⁰. The heat will drop fast is the reason for going to 350⁰.

A: Happy to help. Rust-Oleum Automotive Enamel Spray Paint can be applied over standard or sandable primers. Without knowing the primer that was used (we have many primers), that label should be reviewed to determine if sanding is required prior to top coating.

Q:Can I spray this on a charcoal grill?
by|Aug 2, 2020
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: The Rust-Oleum Automotive Enamel Spray Paint can only handle up to 200°F, Matthew, and it'll be likely that your charcoal grill will exceed this. The product cannot handle anything warmer/hotter and will peel or fail off the surface. Instead, consider the Rust-Oleum Specialty High Heat Spray Paint products as they can handle up to 1200°F on indirect heat (not in contact with flames). While we do not have red, we do offer a few colors that may work for you. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Specialty-12-oz-High-Heat-Ultra-Semi-Gloss-Black-Spray-Paint-241169/203161184 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 1
