Q:This Reliance power box is mounted on the outside of my horse trailer. Two elec. sockets are installed in the dressing room. What cord/adapted to I need to plug into it to access campground power, or any other outside power source, for electricity?

A: A variety of adapter cords are available but we need to know the configuration of the receptacle you want to connect to to answer your question. The power inlet box configuration is L14-30.
by|Feb 26, 2023
A: You need an L14-30 cord for connection to the PB 30 box. Campground connections are typically only 30 amp 120volt so it may not be possible. This box is for a generator connection.

Q:Can I knock a 1 1/2" hole on top of this box

Answer This Question
A: No
by|Jun 12, 2021
A: Not really. The cover comes off and the top and receptacle are one piece. If you do you may not be able to open it to service it. Also, if you do you damage the weathertight ability of the box.
by|Mar 29, 2021
A: You will loose your outside wet location rating by doing that, but there is enough room to do so.
by|Mar 29, 2021
A: Please check with specific information about products. Call manufacturer first.
Remember this is electrical outlet so you do not want water or object to get in it.
Also drilling may affect the box structure.
by|Mar 30, 2021
A: If you are mounting this outside you would want to always come out of the bottom of the box. If you come out of the top it could be a problem with water getting in.

Q:It says use copper wire, I have 8 gauge aluminum, is that going to be a problem?

Answer This Question
A: 8 gauge aluminum is rated for 40 amps. you should be fine. be sure to anti oxidant compound on the terminations to fight corrosion.
by|Feb 26, 2021
A: I would not use aluminum as it will work loose over time with heat.
by|Jul 8, 2021
A: I’m not concerned about amps I don’t have anything pulling more than 30 amp. More concerned about using an aluminum wire vs copper wire and if it will be a problem for the inlet connections.
by|Feb 23, 2021
A: No. Your wire size is good for 45 amps on a 30 amp connection.
by|Feb 23, 2021
A: You will have difficulty getting the 8 guage wire to bend in that tight of an area

Q:If I want to mount this outside, and run wire into the panel inside, what type of #6 cable/wire is legal for this application... THHN, NM-B, MC or UF? I would be using the back cutouts on this box and run wire through vinyl siding, then a very short distance indoors to the panel. Do I need conduit?

Answer This Question
A: no, as long as the wire is made for outdoors. how many amp breaker are you using? I think you mite have a hard time with #6 wire, it is very stiff and there's not much room to bend it around in the box. it's a 30 amp box, you don't need #6 wire

A: I recommend conduit, either 3/4" or 1". Do not use #6 wire. The manufacturers instructions state to use #10 minimum, #8 maximum wire size. Number 6 won't fit in terminals without cutting strands which is illegal. In conduit use THHN wire.
by|Jan 3, 2021
A: Yes. Single conductors such as thhn are not to bevrun without conduit, or greenfield type flex.
You do not need #6 conductor for this. Its only a 30 amp device. Number 10 conductor is sufficient.

A: 10/3 romex through the back of the inlet would be fine for this 30 amp inlet.
by|Jan 1, 2021
A: I ran mine from outside through the wall directly into my 10 circuit transfer panel. I used #10 copper wire because my outlet on generator was rated at 30 amps just like this receptacle.

Q:Is there a knock out for 1” conduit
by|Sep 9, 2020

Answer This Question
A: The included knockouts are combination 1/2 and 3/4 inch. If you want to use 1" fittings you will have to make the whole larger with an electrician's punch or step drill.
by|Sep 10, 2020
A: Not without making the knockout larger. It comes with a k/o of 1/2” and 3/4”.
by|Dec 30, 2020
A: I dont believe so. Im quite sure that 3/4 is the largest. But if youve already run 1”, you can cut it shorter, and get a 1”-3/4” reducer and change the size.
by|Sep 10, 2020
A: You should use 1/2 conduit with foot pv
by|Sep 10, 2020
A: There are 3/4”/1” knockouts on the back and bottom.

Q:what is the largest size wire that will fit in this plug ?
by|Sep 2, 2020

Answer This Question
A: 8 gauge. 6 will barely fit into the back of the plug but there isn't room in the box for 6 gauge to make the bend coming out of the connector. It's a 30 amp rated device so 10 gauge is what you need, 8 is overkill. There is a 50 amp version that has more room for larger wire.

A: It standard size it has be 30 amp Generator interlocking cord
by|Sep 3, 2020
A: According to the instructions provided with the Inlet Box, it will accommodate AWG #10 minimum, AWG #8 maximum. Instructions available on Home Depot in PDF and also come with the box.

Q:Can i use this to power a camper from a generator?

Answer This Question
A: Most.campers (that I know of at least) are wired for 110vac inlet power. This is for a house, wired for 220 vac. I'm sure you could "make it work" but your.generator would be unbalanced and would give only half rated power.
by|Jul 28, 2020
A: Yes, if it is correctly installed by a qualified technician.
by|Jul 28, 2020
A: Yes. I use mine to connec my home generator to my breaker box. I have a lock out to keep the power generated from returning to the power lines. you will also need to have a male to male extension cord.
by|Jan 25, 2024
A: Yes, as long as you don’t draw more than 30 amps. The instructions that come with it ( can also be downloaded from Home Depot) are good. Be sure you have a good earth ground on the camper and generator. Don’t over tighten the wire connections.

A: Camper come with these outlet. Talk to your manufacturer of camp
Follow your camper safely guidelines

A: No, not acceptable. Manual by-pass must be at the Main Panel only to satisfy utilities service disconnect requirements. Your generator inlet integration must take place at the Main Pane
Panel.
by|Jun 23, 2020
A: Doesn’t sound like a good idea. It depends on how you fabricate your female connectors and how you are using them. You need to use good electrical principles.

A: No should always the follow instruction And proper safeguards.
