A:  It sounds like the 2-1/2” depth of the box is the issue because of the MC/BX cable clamps that are inside and are interfering with the larger depth of the device. The solution for this problem would be to install a deeper box, but will need to use additional old work switch box clips for the drywall that do not come with the box. You can use either a 570RAC (2-3/4” deep) or a 600 (3-1/2” deep) box, and then attach a pair of 969 switchbox clips for use with ½” drywall or the 977 Grip-Lok supports.
