Q:I want to create a shrub type appearance. How far from the house should I plant and how far apart?

Answer This Question

A:  Hi Angie, The Little Lime Hydrangea is hardy to zone 3, which is in the uppermost parts of the United States. The best spacing anticipates the mature size of the shrub, which is 36 - 60 inches. If you would like the plants to grow into each other space them closer together. If you would like them to be more defined and separated, space them further apart. If you have any questions, please call our hotline (734) 654- 7485. Best regards, Fallon

A:  Hi Lovehydrangeas, The Little Lime hydrangea requires 4-6+ hours of direct sunlight to thrive and bloom. If it does not get enough light it will perform poorly and most likely not bloom for you. If you have any questions, please call our hotline (734) 654- 7485. Best regards, Fallon

Q:Can this be planted in zone 9 South West Florida and would it survive in an eastern or western exposure? This is a biggie everyone from the Northeast say it would be impossible to grow Hydrangeas here. Thank you from all of the hydrangea deprived gardeners.

A:  Hi Mary, Little Lime Hydrangeas are a dwarf variety that grow to be 3-5 feet tall and wide. If you are looking for something larger, we also offer Limelight Hydrangea, which grows to be 6-8 feet tall and wide. Both shrubs make wonderful additions to the landscape. If you have any additional questions, feel free to call us at (734) 654-7485. Thanks, Hailee

A:  Hi Tricia, It is common for young Hydrangeas to droop in the first year as they are focused on growing. You can pinch them back in the spring to help them out. Once they get a couple of years old, they will not droop. If you have any other questions, feel free to call us at (734) 654-7485. Thanks, Hailee

A:  Hi Sassydoc, The Little Lime Hydrangea is not known to specifically attract bees. While it is not listed as one of our plants that attracts pollinators, they may still spend some time around the plant and will probably be interested in the plant too. If you have any additional questions, feel free to call our hotline at (734) 654-7485. Thanks, Hailee

Q:I have purchased this little lime hydrangea from proven winner through Home Depot and the plant was delivered to me on 26 Apr in good shape. The leaves are tiny in lime light colour, not deep green and overall it looked young but healthy. Now which is around 2 weeks since I planted in a big 15 inches planter, I found some leaves turn yellow at the top of the plant...so is the plant dying or what? I have planted it using proven winner continuous release fertilizer and so far I have used once the proven winner premium water soluble plant food too. The plant is located on a spot that gives plenty of direct sunlight (over 6 hours sunlight) a day and enjoy some shade in the evening. I'm watering it once every two days.

A:  You're over-fertilizing and perhaps over-watering as well. New plants only need very minor, if any, fertilizer as they're establishing a root system and you won't see much upper growth. A mild starter fertilizer such as Bio-Tone Starter is best. I'd suggest removing it from the pot and using new, acid loving soil formulated for the plant. Don't add any type of fertilizer as there are already enough nutrients in the new soil. Water thoroughly then let sit a week and see how much water is needed. If you're not familiar with container gardening do some research to get a good watering schedule.

A:  It's possible your soil is a bit alkaline. It's probably just as simple as adding some coffee grounds to the soil around the plant. Here's a link which offers a few other causes of leaf yellowing. https://www.hunker.com/13427852/the-causes-of-yellow-leaves-and-brown-spots-on-hydrangeas

A:  Hi Beginner, There are a few reasons plant leaves turn yellow. If your soil is not well drained then it is possible the plant is drowning, even though you only water every two days. Check the soil before watering. Pick up a handful and squeeze it. If water pours out, it has too much. If you are able to send us some pictures of your plant we can help you figure out what's going on with your Little Lime ColorChoice Hyrdrangea. We want to make sure your plant is happy and healthy. You may contact us at our hotline (734) 654- 7485. Best regards, Fallon

Q:Hi Vicki from PW, I am ready to purchase these little gems. I'm putting them in a shady place, with sun just in front of them. Will they do okay or do I need more sun for them? The rhodys I pulled out grew there so I'm hoping these will do well. but as I said, it is shady there in front of the house. (north side) We live in Michigan. And they grow between 36-60 " high? They are going in front of a window and were looking for a shorter version of the hydranga. this would be perfect if you think it will work! Please help ! :)

If the area you are planning to plant in gets a few hours of sun, they will do well. They do grow to be 3-5 ft tall, but can be trimmed to your desired height in front of your windows :) If you have any other questions, feel free to call our hotline at (734) 654-7485. Thanks, Hailee

A:  Hi Beginner, Only in mid to late summer (think June). The ones in your garden center are early blooming hydrangeas. These are late blooming hydrangeas. If you ordered these in April they will be green and with developing buds. In general it is better to buy a plant that is budding and not blooming. After all, you want the blooms in your yard. If you buy them blooming you may not get another set of blooms for another couple months. Thanks, Shane
