A:  Hi Nudia - Thanks for asking. Rose of Sharon are hardy in USDA zones 5-9. In areas subjected to harsh winters and snow, it will die back to the ground. Q:What is the root system like on this Magenta chiffon Rose of Sharon hibiscus?
    by|Oct 18, 2023

    Answer This Question

A:  Hi Nora, Thanks for your inquiry!! The Rose of Sharon shrub has a fairly shallow root system, and most of the roots can be found in the top 8 to 12 inches of soil, but on occasion, can reach as far as 30 inches away from the plant. Magenta Chiffon displays magenta-purple powderpuff blooms summer through fall on an elegant, rounded shrub that moves in the breeze. It attracts hummingbirds and is non-invasive. Whether you plant one striking specimen or mix and match for a colorful collection, you will see that Chiffon series roses of Sharon are anything but conventional. 8-12 feet tall and 4-6 feet wide at maturity Grow in zones 5-9 Plant in full sun (6+ hours daily) Care: Prune to shape as needed in early spring. Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring and mid-summer. Q:Why doesn?t the flower look like a typical hibiscus?

      Answer This Question

A:  Great question! Roses of Sharon are a hardy hibiscus variety different from the common tropical varieties. Hardy hibiscus like Rose of Sharon are cold-tolerant, perennial shrubs can be just as beautiful as their tropical counterparts, with big showy blooms in a range of colors. I am including a link to our Rose of Sharon selections. https://provenwinnersdirect.com/search?q=hibiscus As always, please feel free to reach out to us at any time with any questions or concerns. A:  I never tried to propagate this plant - after two years I’m still struggling to get it in the right location just to grow!  That being said Proven Winners patents their plants so there may some legal considerations regarding propagation - never really checked into that aspect…

A:  I think rose of Sharon generally grow pretty fast but these have not grown much in 2 months even with lots of rain and watering. Go with a larger one.

                                  Answer This Question

A:  Hi Katt~ Great question! Thanks to their naturally graceful habit, Chiffon roses of Sharon don't require much pruning. If you wish to prune them, however, early spring is the best time to do so. Note that rose of Sharon is quite late to leaf out in spring, so be patient with it. You can train a rose of Sharon hibiscus bush to become a single-stem tree in the winter or early spring with a pruning technique referred to as "limbing up." The limbing-up process takes about three years to accomplish. As always, please feel free to reach out to us at any time with any questions or concerns. Q:Not sure what to do. Plant arrived late May planted and did OK, Now starting to look bad, leaves are dropping but still alive. I'm 60+ days in to the warranty. If it might survive I hate to lose the rest of the growing year and dig it up now. Suggestions from Home Depot.
