A: The bottom is open. Due to the size of the opening, t is a little difficult to fit both my hand, and a bulb in to screw in a light, but it is open

A: Open. Stays very clean and free of bugs and debris which we like.

A: Yes. The bottom is open. I wouldn't worry about bugs flying up into the light. My old fixture was completely enclosed. When the electricians removed the old one to replace it, there were wasp nests inside. I never knew it.....and all the times I took the top off the old fixture to change light bulbs.

A: Home Depot stocks the Gilded Iron version in all store, therefore it is priced based upon that volume and the production efficiency that scale creates.
