    Answer This Question

A:  The post and sleeve must be anchored with concrete. We have these on all our buildings and they work great.

A:  The sleeves come with lag bolts and rubber washers to bolt the protector to the post.

A:  If you set them in concrete and don’t use the holding screws to the post don’t see why it wouldn’t work

Q:When using these for deck support posts will the bottom bearing support the deck post load? Also what prevents the post from uplift if it simply slides in and out of the sleeve?

        Answer This Question

A:  No, you would still need a footing pad (concrete or plastic) to dispurse the load over a larger area. This is dependent on the load carrying capacity of your soil and the load on each post.

        by|Jun 18, 2023

A:  The plastics is only a shield between the wood and ground. The sleeve will support anything the wood post will if installed correctly. I used them on the posts for the pole building I built and liked them very much.

A:  It doesn't simply slide in and out. Ours were so snug that we had to cut them to install, you'd have plenty of soil pressure. Besides that you lag it into the post. Yes it can support load. Are you installing a footing or planning for friction only? - if you're worried, you could always look at doing the couple foot section as most of the microbes you are protecting against are near the surface.

Q:My contractor did a direct soil burial of 6x6 PT posts (on concrete footers). I am skeptical and would like to add a barrier. Can I slit this product and wrap them around the existing posts and perhaps re-tape the seam with house-wrap tape? If this seems bad, what can I do the provide a barrier for posts that are already in place?

A:  Assuming you can remove the dirt around the post, I don't see why not. If your post have a high level of chemical treatment you might be okay for years. There are a lot of variables.

A:  Do you have the pressure treating specs of the posts?

Q:Can it be snapped on an existing post or cut open easily and then wrapped and sealed around the post?

              Answer This Question

A:  No, it cannot. The idea is to have a seamless protection against the ground elements. I would think that cutting it to wrap would defeat the functionality.

              by|Aug 26, 2020

A:  That is not how the product is designed to work- they are made for installation at the time the posts are set. While we appreciate your need for post protection, what you describe may help some, but please understand that is not the designed installation/use so results are uncertain.

A:  I’ve installed several but only about 6-8” was above the slab when poured. I wrapped the 6x6’s in aluminum as to be trouble free. I did paint the exposed 6-8” and it seemed to hold very well. After aluminum wrap it was hard to see. I think the paint stuck very well.

A:  Yes, it is different from a regular pvc post sleeve

                    by|Jun 26, 2019

A:  I would think that a PVC sleeve would have a thicker profile. This material is quite thin, but not thin enough for rocks to puncture easily unless they are abused during installation. In my situation (a pole barn) the thin profile provided minimal, if non existent, interference with the girts and prevented them from protruding out from girts that were installed on the bare post above the top of the post protector.
