Q:Can the opening be trimmed wider so that it fits over a 5" PVC pipe? Meaning the collar may end up being less wide, but there would still be a worthwhile collar.

A:  No, this product is not intended to be cut for a larger than 4" pipe.

    A:  When installing a rain collar over the existing collar for a repair silicone is needed between the two collars. No silicone is needed to seal to the pipe.

            Q:Can it be used over all-aluminum flashing (over sewage vent)? If so, is silicone sealant applied over the top of the aluminum flashing and also under the collar?

            A:  Can’t answer definitely but as long as it’s real snug I don’t see why not. And yes, I applied silicone around the pipe before lowering the collar onto the pipe (and onto the silicone). There is a This Old House video on this topic on You Tube that may be helpful. Hope this helps.

                  A:  I stretched it over my piping for a really tight fit. A portion of the inner ring can be removed for larger piping.

                    A:  Yes. The dimension listed on the product is nominal. It will stretch to accommodate the actual size.

                      A:  Yes, it worked for me. The rubber was surprisingly flexible, and if the inside is lubed with a little silicon grease (or similar, I guess you could use Crisco or other non-petroleum grease), and additionally the collar is soaked in some hot water before sliding on, it makes the installation much easier.
