A: Sine the box is 36.4 x 7.5, I would assume that a liner 3/4" - 1" smaller would work. The box is not very thick along the outside dimensions, less than 1/2" ,I'd say.

A: Yes, this product is a window box. In that manner it is for outdoor use under a window and is mounted via bracket.

A: Yes, it is a window box and has a good rating, which caused me to order three of them. They are lightweight, too, so with filling them, they are not overly heavy, which I like. I have mine on "shelf braces" which give it a nice look, but also screwed them into the house frame for added assurance. If you choose to do that, you have to make sure you hit the wood in line with your windows. And you can do that without adding braces if you so choose. See "how to hang window boxes" on almost any DIY site. These are the best window boxes I've seen for the money and can be painted any color. Mine are white. I'm sure you would really enjoy one and it really gives the added pop to the front of a house! (I filled the bottom of mine with styrofoam pcs. rather than pebbles so as not to make them too heavy. They also have good drain holes in the bottom.)

A: This box has no provisions for hanging/mounting to the house. However, a couple L brackets should easily work.

Q:What is the height? I plan to just sit them on my courtyard wall with flowers. Is that doable, meaning not anchoring them?

A: The weather right now is not very good for me to go out and measure them, but I think when it says 36.4 x 7.5, that the height is the 7.5 inches. That seems about right. And yes, I'm sure they would work on a wall if the wall is the right width to hold them. I added one on the railing of my deck and it works well there. It actually sets over the railing and that helps to hold it on the sides. It would be good if your wall was the right width to do the same as that would help give it some stability. If you're worried about it falling, adding some small pebbles to the bottom for drainage would help to keep it in place, too, in bad weather. I really don't think you'd have a problem with it, tho' keep in mind that the window boxes themselves are quite light when empty.

A: Yes. The bottom is flat and the plastic material of construction will not rot if it stays wet for a long period.

A: I set mine on the deck rail & wondered the same thing. Full of wet dirt, it weighs 55 lbs. so it would take some effort to knock them over.

A: Guessing, I'd say 20-25 lbs. I did 4 boxes. I used 40 lbs gravel, 40 lbs topsoil & 40 lbs potting soil. Minimal leftover.

A: This item will hold, roughly, 1336 Cubic Inches or 20 dry quarts of soil. Roughly because it depends on the quality of the soil being used.

Q:Are these suitable to attach to the top of a railing on a deck? Can you drill holes in the to attach like you would a wooden box? Are they sturdy enough? Can they withstand very cold temperatures (installing in Alaska).

Answer This Question
A: I personally don't think they are sturdy enough to drill holes and hang them given the weight of the dirt in them. Brackets under them would be a better way to go. I set mine ON the deck rail as I was after the privacy factor.

A: Yes to all your questions. The only caveat I would add is that if you are going to attach these to a railing by screwing through the bottom into the railing, I would pre-drill the holes and use a fender washer on the inside. We have shipped ecoFLEX based products world wide and have had very few problems especially those related to climate - hot or cold.
