A: Anne - If you are using NDS part #201 (Spee-D Catch basin), then a 3-inch corrugated pipe should work without any problems. Take a look at it one more time and if you are still experiencing difficulty making that connection, call our Technical Service Team at 1-800-726-1994 & use prompt #3.
A: You can use this to feed a drywall, yes. You can cut out the bottom of it with a Dremel or saw as well to feed two pipes in too.
A: yes
A: Depends on the thickness of the pipe but you should be able to. You can always try and return the outlet if it doesnt fit
A: It's designed to fit 4" corrugated or PVC.
A: I wouldn’t. All the grates are plastic and this can crack as well
A: I would not recommend allowing vehicles to drive directly on the catch basin. See a civil engineer for exact allowance, but SDR 35 pipe buried with 12" of appropriate cover should be strong enough for typical vehicular traffic, just not sizable delivery trucks or dump trucks. If you are engineering something, you'll need to contact NDS for Load Allowances.
A: Depends on what you drive of course. A Smart car would be okay
A: I am not sure, but I think that you could if installed with cement around the sides ( 4 inches on sises and below) recess the drain about 1/4 inch below cement.
A: This basin is not rated for vehicular traffic.
A: Yes
A: Yes, the bottom is closed off.
A: Yes.
A: Yes and there is about an inch where water will sit after rain. I drilled a hole in the bottom of mine so that can eventually drain out and not become a mosquito breeding ground.
A: This basin is solid on the bottom. We recommend drilling a couple of 1/8" holes in the bottom and installing on a 4-6" bed of gravel. This will help eliminate the standing water in the basin after a rain event.
A: You do not need to knock out the 3" ring, because it does help hold the pipe in place.
A: No, but the insert is such that it will accept both 3" and 4" pipe without modifications.
A: yes
A: Nope, it helps secure the inside of the 4" pipe.
A: yes
A: Yeah it can be connected to perf pipe. Very easy.
A: yes
A: I did. Actually, solid pvc on one side and the corrugated drain pipe on the other for a “French drain” I dug last summer. Gorilla taped the seam and used compression fittings in between the pipes.
A: Yes, I used both the 3 inch and 6 inch, both connect fine with the corrigatedand smooth pipes
A: I have tried to connect to corrugated flex drain pipe and have nothing but trouble. I've used self tapping screws, silicone and pulling my hair out because it keeps leaking.
A: This will connect to both 3" and 4" pipe. Ideally SDR 35 PVC Pipe. It doesn't differentiate between perforated pipe and solid pipe. The fittings are press fitted, not glued.
A: Both are fine.
A: If your pipe is 3" or 4" it should connect either way.
A: The receptacles in the horizontal plane can accept both 3" and 4" pipes. The top receptacle is for 6" pipe. To get a 1.5" pipe into this catch basin you'll need to make special adaptations/alterations. I do not know if NDS makes such an adaptor, but you might call them.
A: The NDS Spee-D Basin is designed to fit both 3" and 4" pipes. In order to connect a 1 1/2" pipe you would need to first start with a 3" or 4" pipe and then use a series of pipes and reducers to get down to the 1 1/2" pipe. Using flexible rubber fittings will probably be the easiest way to go.
A: If you use a series of diameter reducers, yes.
A: No, the sizes are not compatible.
A: I don't think so 3" is the smallest.
A: Yes, that is exactly what you do to raise the inlet/rim to a higher elevation, you need to purchase a piece of 6" pipe to be inserted into the vertical receptacle. Just about any piece of 6" pipe should work. There are usually spare pieces of trash pipe at the dump and many construction sites.
A: Here is how you can raise the elevation of the grate without adjusting the installation of the basin: You will need a piece of 6" SDR-35 PVC pipe (not schedule 40 PVC), a 6" SDR-35 pipe coupling, and the grate. Measure the distance from the surface to the inside lip of the Spee-D basin (1.75" down from the top). Slide the coupling onto the end of the pipe and place the grate on the other end of the coupling. NDS grate fit both the pipe and the coupling, but the fit in the coupling is much tighter. Measure from the surface of the grate onto the pipe and MARK the needed length. After cutting the pipe, slide the pipe into Spee-D basin and backfill as needed.
A: I have not seen such an adapter but they do make atrium grates which are taller
A: To extend the rim elevation you'll need to acquire a piece of 6" PVC pipe. SDR 35 is typically used, but as this is for drainage, most 6" pipe should work. I often collect pieces of discarded pipe at construction sites or at the dump, then just cut them to length. You'll need a reciprocating saw (Sawz-All), with a fine toothed blade about 14" in length.
A: Yes you can .Home D carry 6" pipe in 2' length just for this reason.
A: The connection between drain pipes and the catch basin outlets are soil tight. I recommend clear waterproof silicone at each connection to make a watertight seal.
A: gravity..... make slope 1 inch per foot length
A: The basin's receptacles are made to fit snugly with both 3" and 4" SDR35 PVC pipe. As drainage water is not under pressure, and water flows down hill, if the drain and the associated drain lines are installed properly the water should flow easily toward the lowest outlet. Yes, some very minute amounts of water may bypass the seal, but you do not need to glue, seal or tape the fitting to the drain lines. As this is a catch basin, seasonal clearing of the built up debris in the basin bottom will be necessary.
A: The perforated pipe slips between the inner and outer fingers of the outlet holes. Since the whole point of a French drain is to move water from high-saturation to low saturation areas, this does not need to be a 100% water-tight connection, it merely needs to be the path of least resistance. As the water level in the basin rises, it naturally follows the path of least resistance, and begins saturating the fill gravel around the basin. Once this gravel saturates, the water begins flowing down-grade through through the perf pipe, and leaches into the fill gravel around it.
A: I am sure some water leaks out during heavy rain. It is not designed to be water-tight but does a good job of getting the vast majority of water through.
