A: Typical Milwaukee, Gets the job done
by|Jan 14, 2020
A: Not that I know of. Will warn you about this router. Although it is a brute, Milwaukee put a plastic nut on the end of adjustment screw for up and down. Already replaced the machine once because of this. It was only 2 months old. Mine is permanently mounted on a bosch table with height adjustment from the top. Not knowing that plastic cap was on the metal screw adjustment rod, since I use this machine a lot, one day it wouldn't adjust. Cheap plastic head broke off.

Q:When installed on a router table, is it a MUST to remove the motor to install or change bits? Reviews suggest this is the case, however the manual says on pg 7 "It is not necessary to remove the motor from the base to install a collet assembly or a bit" but the manual does not specify if this is for handheld use or table set up. Anyone tried changing bits without removing it from its base when on a router table? Thank you.

A: The line you reference from the manual is referring to the fact that there are cutouts on the sides of the base that allow you to get your wrenches in there to change bits without taking the base off the motor. The collet doesn’t reach all the way through the baseplate, so changing bits with the base mounted under a table will be pretty much impossible. Really the only way to do that is with a third party lift. They’re awesome and we’ll worth it if you use it a lot, but cost as much as the router itself. Good luck!

A: I have never removed router from table to change bits. There is plenty of space to loosen bit collet using wrenches supplied.

A: I remove the motor to change the bits when it’s on the router table. Their is offset wrenches for different router that might work but I don’t have them for the old Milwaukee brand router.

A: No. At least on a JessEm 02120 Mast-R-Lift II Router Lift you can move the motor up high enough to access both nuts of the collet with the wrenches. This is probably true with other lifts, too.

A: No you do not have to remove the motor from the base to change bits/collet. I can't imagine having to do that every time; that would be absurd! I did have to modify my Craftsman, aluminum table to make this router fit. The mounting screws have a huge head (for some silly reason) and I had to enlarge the countersink for the screw heads to be flush/ below the table top. Good luck!

A: The manual refers to the handheld use. When mounted on the table you must drop the motor down to change bits. This is no big deal since you simply press a button to release the motor.

A: I installed mine in the Jessem Master lift ll
To change the bit on mine I just raise the router with the above table crank and change the bit above the table. One awesome combination! Wish I’d done it years ago. Had to alter the router a bit to accommodate the router lift but it was worth it!

Answer This Question
A: Howdy gego,
The manufacturer states; "Readily converts any existing table or production jig setup", which means in theory yes.
However, the proof is in whether it works or not. Since these are two different manufactures there is a chance it will not.
happy routing,
