Q:can you use this with a spade bit?

Answer This Question

A:  I don't see why not. If the spade bit fits in the appropriate size hole like a drill bit and doesn't bind on the sides it should work just fine.

A:  You might be able to. But I believe it would work better with typical twist drill bits. https://www.keithmessickarchitecture.com

A:  Yes, if you can fit it into the hole, it will drill it straight.

A:  This is really designed for regular high speed twist drill bits. I would not recommend using a spade bit with this drill guide.

A:  Assuming the spade is the same size as the hole, the theoretical answer is yes, - but spade bits usually have smaller bit size above the spade. When the spade clears the block you will not have the vehicle control you may desire.

A:  I wouldn’t try that. The wobble of a spade bit would tear up the metal inserts on the DrillBlock in short order. The inserts are precision machined, so if they’ve been compromised, the block would become useless.

A:  Using a spade bit with the DrillBlock is not recommended.

A:  I would think as long as the bit fits in one of the available holes.

A:  This drill block measures 1-5/8" wide x about 4-9/16" long x 1-1/8" thick. Hope this helps.

A:  The 5.5" side would be a piece of cake to put the drill block in, but the 1.5" might be a very tight fit. In my view, it would all depend upon which drill bit size you planned on using and where in the space the hole was to be placed. You would have a lot more room for movement along the 5.5" side (but still no guarantee that the hole you planned to use could be centered over the hole location). It's doubtful that the 1.5" side would have any movement at all. I hope this makes sense...

                            A:  No, this drill block is 7.85" x 2.7".
