Q:Is this tile a true Encaustic tile or is this a ceramic tile with an encaustic look?
Will this material require sealing?
Are the manufactures installation instructions/recommendations available?

Answer This Question
A: This is a ceramic tile with an encaustic look. Not a true Encaustic tile.
by|Oct 23, 2019
A: Hi! Our Twenties Classic is an encaustic-look tile constructed of ceramic. Sealing this product is not required. However, sealing the grout can help prolong the life of your installation and help prevent the grout lines and tile from dirt buildup. This tile has a glazed finish, which will help prevent contaminants from staining the tile if cleaned up in a reasonable amount of time. As for installation instructions, you can find this and other resources listed under “Info & Guides” within the product overview section on the product page. If you have any further questions, please give us a call at (800)-963-7652.

Answer This Question
A: Hi! We would not recommend installing this product over pre-existing aggregate. The main issue is that the integrity of your second installation would depend on the previous installation. If any issues arise with the original installation, this will subsequently damage the new installation. If you have any further questions, please give us a call at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

Q:is the white an off-white on the charcoal background ? I want a soft white not a stark white. Thank you.

Answer This Question
A: It is a soft white and charcoal. Love it
by|Nov 17, 2018
A: Hi Sue,
The white in our Twenties Classic is more of an off-white, or a very light grey. Computer monitors have a tendency to portray colors either too warm or too cool in terms of tone. This makes judging whether the tile will suit your needs a bit more difficult.
If you would like to determine if these tiles are right for you, we offer samples at the Home Depot! Twenties Classic is a unique situation where we offer a full tile sample https://thd.co/2EEQlvW. Please note that variation in color, shade and texture are inherent characteristics of glazed tile. The pattern, shape, dye lot (color) and size of the actual tile received may vary. Home Depot offers a 90-day return policy on all unused items returned in the full quantity they were sold.

A: Yes it's like an off white. You will be happy with them
by|Nov 18, 2018
A: Yes, I would call it a soft white
by|Nov 18, 2018
A: Personally, I’d call it on the softer side. Probably because the finish is matte, not shiny. It’s definitely black and white though, and since that’s such a stark contrast, the white definitely looks white! All I can really say for sure is that I love it in my small bathroom.
by|Nov 19, 2018
A: Yes I would call this a soft white. It’s a printed image so it’s not super crisp like actual cement tiles but for the price you can’t go wrong. I put it behind two small hanging vanities and mirrors. It is amazing and it has a matte finish so it’s not slippery. Lots of compliments.

Q:I'm looking for an inexpensive rectangle subway tile that matches this flooring. What suggestions do you have in white? Thanks!

Answer This Question
A: Most white tiles seem to work fine, because Merrola is a soft color. I'd choose a white tile brand that has the options included, bullnose, trim, floor transition, such and such.

A: Hi MW,
Unfortunately, we don't carry a subway tile that directly coordinates with our Twenties Vintage. We can recommend some options for you, but ultimately this would come down to your preference.
The first suggestion is our Projectos Neve Matte https://thd.co/2zigADD. This tile has all similar specifications to the Twenties Vintage, including a slightly textured, matte finish.
The second suggestion is our Metro Soho Subway Matte White https://thd.co/2A7FLZe. This tile also has very similar specifications to our Twenties Vintage, but is made of porcelain. This tile also has a C.O.F. between .60 and .79, which means this tile meets or exceeds ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) Guidelines and is skid resistant.
If you would like to determine if either of these tiles are right for you, we offer samples! Please be aware that samples come adhered to 6”x6” sample cards which offer a color and texture sample, not a look at the whole pattern. To be able to see the whole pattern, we recommend ordering one sheet. Please note that variation in color, shade and texture are inherent characteristics of glazed tile. The pattern, shape, dye lot (color) and size of the actual tile received may vary. Home Depot offers a 90-day return policy on all unused items returned in the full quantity they were sold (in this situation, an each).

Q:Has anyone used this tile in construction a kitchen counter top? Pros & cons please, if so. Thank you.

Answer This Question
A: No. I would not use it in a counter top situation. It is a little porous to begin with so I would not advise doing so in that type of application.
Thanks Mac

A: Hi SQUIRREL,
Our Twenties Classic has a PEI rating of 3, which means it can be used on a kitchen countertop as long as it will not be receiving heavy use. Ideally, you will want to find a tile that has a PEI rating of 4 or 5 for a regularly used countertop.
If your kitchen countertop will be receiving rigorous use, we would recommend looking into our Arte White https://thd.co/2yPgmmv. This encaustic look field tile also has a PEI rating of 4, so this would be a great option! Arte has a very similar pattern to our Twenties Classic, but with the colors reversed. One thing to be aware of is that our Arte is slightly larger than our Twenties, and Arte is made of porcelain.
In situations like this, we would suggest ordering samples from the Home Depot! Arte comes on a 3”x4” sample card which offer a color and texture sample, not a look at the whole pattern https://thd.co/2CsJN1c. To be able to see the whole pattern, we recommend ordering a case. Please note that variation in color, shade and texture are inherent characteristics of glazed tile. The pattern, shape, dye lot (color) and size of the actual tile received may vary.

Q:an tile be used on outside of the firebox of a gas insert?
by|Aug 26, 2018

Answer This Question
A: Hi maillady,
Yes, our Twenties Vintage would be a great option for the outside of a firebox! As long as these tiles aren’t in direct contact with flames, they won’t be affected by indirect heat. These tiles are heated to temperatures over thousands of degrees during the manufacturing process, so a small amount of indirect heat from a firebox is nothing compared to that.

Q:Is there a specific bull nose that would match this tile well?
by|Jun 24, 2018

Answer This Question
A: Hi tiler,
Yes, our Twenties series offers three bullnose tiles that would coordinate well with our Twenties Vintage https://thd.co/2N1HoNS.
Please keep in mind that although these tiles are in the same series, they do not come from the same dye lot. As a result of this, the different shades might not match up perfectly. We would recommend purchasing a single piece to see if it suits your needs. Home Depot offers a 90-day return policy on all unused items returned in the full quantity they were sold (in this situation, an each).
