A:  Let me preface this by saying that it is highly recommended that you have a licensed plumber/gas company professional connect the machine. In my area, a county permit is required to replace a gas appliance and they will not be happy if something goes wrong and they find out it was not installed correctly. According to the Whirlpool Help Line, the conversion kit model number is W10606694A. Again, it is a good idea to let a pro hook it up, and they would know how to get a hold of the part for you.

Q:Does a separate water line have to be installed for the steam function?

          Answer This Question

A:  There is a separate water line that needs to run into the dryer for a direct connect. This is a huge benefit as you don't have to worry about refilling a reservoir when you want to use the steam cycle or feature. The good news is that the water line just connects off of the water line that connects to your washer. All additional hoses and the Y connector are included. Thank you for viewing this Maytag home appliance.

A:  The dryer comes with a wye (a plumbing fitting that allows you to tap into your existing cold water line to feed the dryer while still feeding your current washer) and a length of washer hose to feed your new dryer. But here is the funny thing. It lacks a hose to attach the inlet side of the wye to the what is likely to be your existing 1/2" cold water gate faucet. So you will have to go to Big Orange and buy a short washer hose to connect the two. It should not be too expensive, but in my mind I question why the manufacturer included the parts they did, but left out the one part they did, thus causing you to delay full installation of the dryer. The included instructions provide more information than I can here. And if you are still unsure, take the instructions with you, find the plumbing department and someone in that area with an orange apron, point to the part and tell them you need that part. They should be very helpful. Oh, and you don't need a braided stainless hose line. In this application it serves little more purpose than looking pretty. Well, then again, I bought braided stainless because I see the line every time I go into the laundry, and I like pretty.

A:  Yes, a line needs to run from the cold water supply line to the inlet at the back of the dryer. The maytag part is a splitter and a rubber hose, if you want to upgrade to braided stainless, there are usually kits in the store by the supply lines.
