Q:how do these connect to make longer runs? i would like a 12ft to 16ft run

            Answer This Question

A:  I have connected many of these together. There are specific 'parts' manufactured for connecting L 1.) a "c" cleat, which is simply sheet metal strips folded on two edges to form a collapsed "C" pattern, that is then used to slide over the short ends of duct that are pre-folded over into a "J" form ... C form fits over J & J ends together. 2.) an "S" strip of metal that is simply folded sheet metal into a collapsed "S" configuration, that is used to slide over two abutting edges that are not pre-folded / over the long edges of duct. You can order these items from Home Depot, or you can "manufacture" your own pieces, depending how creative/skilled you are. Folding sheet metal is highly useful to create and adapt edge connections. Using sheet metal screws to mechanically connect joints is also wise, followed by aluminum heat/duct taping over joints/connections for air-tight finish. I will look on HD site for specific item names ... "Rectangular Duct Cap" is pre-made end plates to fit onto duct run, in appropriate sizes to fit your duct size. "Metal Hanger Strap" can be used to connect ducting to joists or whatever/ in addition to direct screws through ducting to building structure. "Foil Tape" for sealing joints. Various "sheet metal" products, from flat pieces to rolls you can use to create connectors or patching. You may have to go to an HVAC Supply house for specific parts like the "S" and "C" connective strips ... I can't find them listed on HD site without going exhaustive. Best of luck in your project. Doug.

A:  You have to connect the sections together using what we call here in New York, slips and drives. The slips are a shaped folded sheet metal that the sections slip into and the drives are folded sheet metal that are driven up the short side of the duct that have been folded back 1/4 inch.

A:  No you don't need anything. They are made with a male and female ends. However you will probably have a great deal of work to straighten them out after shipping. The packaging is poor at best for this product, and I am positive that it will arrive damaged.
