A:  I don't see why it would not work on a cabinet. The brackets need two screws each and once you put the post on top, there is a little screws on the bottom of the post to tighten them to the bracket.

A:  Not a good idea. A cabinet does not have the width for the screws to bite into.

A:  The fasteners are screwed into something so if your cabinet has one inch wood and you do not mind the holes, fine. If you have thin sides to the cabinet, no.

A:  The set provided is intended for installation into sheet rock, with expansion plugs and screws accordingly. The supplied screws would be too long for a vanity cabinet. You could certainly install it on a vanity cabinet, but you'd need to purchase additional hardware. If your vanity is fully plywood you could screw right to that. If it's made of chipboard or similar composite, I'd recommend through-bolting (which wouldn't be a bad idea even if it IS solid).
