Answer This Question
A: Thank you for reaching out. This is installed by pressing the seal into a pre-existing kerf channel in the top and sides of a doorway. Thanks

Q:Will this fit a small gap?
The gap between my door and frame is really small in some areas. I tried Frost King Brown Vinyl-Clad Foam Kerf Door Seal and it is too thick. My door won't close with it installed.

Q:Any ideas how to get the door weatherstripping to stay in place in a door slot that is wider than the piece that gets inserted?

A: If you are unable to find a larger kerf, you can try using a few dabs of silicone and use tape to hold it in for a few hours until the silicone dries. Please keep in mind this is NOT the recommended way to install it, just a suggestion to try and help your specific situation.

Q:I have French doors with phantom screens and when it rains water comes inside on my floor. What kind of weather stripping will work?

A: Thank you for the question. We first recommend making sure the door bottoms on your french doors are providing a good seal. If they need to be replaced, a good start would be M-D item #43336, as long as your doors are 1-3/4" thick.

Q:I'm constructing a new entry door frame. I purchased 3 of the M-D Platinum 91890 door weatherstrip. When I install the door stop to the jamb, what is the ideal space I should leave between the door and the stop? I saw one answer that the maximum gap it can seal is 1/2", but what is the ideal gap - 1/4"?? And what is the minimum gap that will still allow the door to close? Thanks for any help.

A: Assuming the jamb is straight and true, then 1/4 inch to 3/8ths is ideal. The variance is there to allow for less than perfectly straight jambs.
1/4 inch is about the minimum, but you can go less than that.
Again, that will only work well if the jamb and door fit well together. Also, forcing a tight fit could prematurely degrade the jamb and cause cracks or bad seals.
I hope that helps! ;-)
