Q:I have step lights on my stairs attached to a 3-way switch (one at the top and one at the bottom of the stairs). I want a sensor both at the top and at the bottom to activate the lights on the stairs. Is this product capable or, if not, is there another?

A:  I would suggest calling Lutron directly. They can best advise you on capabilities of current products and products that may be in development. To answer your question, though, I do not think their current occupancy sensor can work in 2 locations. I could be wrong and it is a great idea. I have installed these occupancy sensors in the laundry/mudrooms and guest bathrooms in my homes and they are awesome! Highly recommend.

A:  Hello! Unfortunately, this device is not capable of being used on both sides of a 3-way application. To use the MS-OPS5M sensor, you would place it at one end of your 3-way and use a standard On/Off light switch at the other end. If you still have questions or concerns, please give us a call at 1-844-LUTRON1. We're here 24/7, so you can reach out any time, day or night.

            A:  No

            by|Jul 1, 2022

A:  Hello! Unfortunately, this device will not function in the way that you are hoping. The switch and the motion sensor will control the same set of lights as they are a single unit, so any set of lights that are wired to this device will be controlled by both the switch and the sensor If you would like one set of lights on a dimmer and a separate set of lights on a motion sensor, you would need two separate switches. If you still have questions, please reach out to our dedicated Customer Satisfaction team at: customersatisfaction@lutron.com, or call us at: 1-844-LUTRON1. A:  It is possible but be sure to program the sensitivity sensor to lowest setting. It might not have effect if your room is small

                by|Apr 1, 2022

A:  Yes, the lights would stay on as long as there is motion in the room, therefore we would not recommend for it to be used in a bedroom.

                  Answer This Question

A:  The MSCL-OPQ153M cannot have the occupancy sensor functionality disabled, but it may be reprogrammed. There is a setting "off-while-occupied" that may resolve the issue. A:  The sensor on the MSCL-OP153M cannot be disabled. Lutron would recommend the MACL-153M if no sensor is needed.

A:  Absolutely, cover the sensor over with masking tape, use a sharpie marker, or better yet just buy a dimmer switch instead!!!

A:  Yes you should be able to. But it's better to buy a switch that just has the dimmer function.

A:  No, you can't disable it. you can only cut down the sensitivity range... What I don't understand is, why not just buy a dimmer instead???

Q:When combined with 3-way switch, what is the light level when the light is turned on by the switch? When the light is turned on by the 3-way switch is the light level the same as if it were triggered by the sensor? If the dimmer is programmed to illuminate at 30%, will the light also illuminate at 30% if it's turned on by the 3-way switch instead of triggered by the sensor?

A:  Yes what ever you program the light level to be then when the sensor is triggered or the slave switch it will go to that light level.

                            by|Jul 25, 2021

A:  When installed in a 3-way application with an existing 3-way switch, the light would turn on to the preset level that was set on the MSCL-OP153M. We've included the advanced programming guide below to help set the preset light level and occupied light level. https://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/048480a.pdf

A:  All great questions that can be found in the user's manual for this device but I will answer them now. The motion sensor will come on at the level you pre set. The 3 way slave switch has to be the recommended slave dimmer which when activated will turn on the lights to the pre set level however from the slave dimmer switch there is a small bar on the side that you can adjust the light level separate from the main switch with the motion sensor on it which acts as the master.

Q:Is there a companion sensor product that effectively extends the area that can detect motion by this dimmer, motion sensor switch? There's an area in my kid's room that the built-in sensor does not detect motion very well. I theorize that a supplemental sensor that specifically points to that area could give the coverage that I need.

A:  These only work in areas where the switch points towards the area you want the motion to be detected. To have a motion sensor separate from the light switch you need a smart home setup with a compatible switch and motion sensor.

A:  No Please consider an INSTEON DIMMER switch which can be paired with a separate movable motion sensor and optional control hub for smart phone control

A:  No!!! There is no motion extender... You may need to survey the room, find a sweet spot and relocate the motion switch there...

                                    Answer This Question

A:  The MSCL-OP153M can be used for single pole or 3-way applications. A traditional 3-way switch or a Lutron Maestro companion dimmer (MA-R) can be used in 3way applications. However, when using an existing 3-way switch, Lutron does recommend rewiring the 3-way switch according to our instructions (page 8. https://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/369748.pdf ). Furthermore, this control is rated for dimming up to 150W LED which requires the use of compatible LED found on our website www.lutron.com/ledfinder.
