Answer This Question

A:  Absolutely not! Steel only. You can get special rods for stick welding aluminum. They work but it's difficult and the result is so-so. You're better off with MIG and a spool gun. Best is TIG. You can make beautiful welds with aluminum using TIG.

A:  You cannot weld aluminum with these rods. They do make special rods for electric arc welding aluminum, however I have never used them. If you search online you can probably find a utube video that can instruct you on what rod you need and how to arc weld aluminum.

A:  This will not weld aluminum It is for carbon steel

      by|Jul 12, 2021

A:  No. Special welding for aluminum. Mig and Tig machines required. Must be experienced in that field for good welding. I would recommend you take to a welding shop for those applications. I'm proficent with stick and wire but, aluminum is a different process. Good luck.

A:  I know of Welders that use them with their portable machines.

          by|May 5, 2023

A:  Fleetweld 180 can be run on DC.

            by|May 5, 2023

A:  Yes. 6010 is DC only and requires a machine with high open circuit voltage (OCV), like 80 to 95 volts. 6011 will run on AC or DC. In fact, all rods will run on DC. The potassium in 6011 that enables it to run on AC also enables it to run on low-voltage DC machines, like inverters. I run these 6011s mostly on an inverter machine with an OCV of about 50 volts. I like to run 3/32 rods at about 85 amps and the 1/8 rods at 115 amps. (Your mileage may vary.) I also run these on DCEP for thin material. If you do that, don't be surprised if you have to run fairly high current. It seems weird but I run Fleetweld 180 E6011 3/32 on DCEP at 95 amps for thin material.

A:  You can run it on DC, however it is best to run it on AC to prevent arc-blow

                by|May 5, 2023

A:  Yes, 6011 are AC and DC. I have used this set for both.

A:  Fleetweld, Jetweld, Excalibur, etc. are just a brand names that Lincoln uses. Fleetweld has been around since 1927. The implication is that you can weld fast with them. Lincoln is heavily focused on industrial welding, where speed is very important. They make many kinds of rods, and several kinds of each type of rod, so they name and number them. I have a can of Fleetweld 35 E6011s and I don't like them. They run a little rough, leave significant slag, and produce an unpleasant odor. Fleetweld 180 E6011 is my favorite rod of all. Well behaved, smooth, powerful, no nasty stink, no slag. These should be a tan color and have three green dots in the middle of the rod. The Fleetweld 35s that I don't like are a dark brown color. If you had gray ones, then maybe you got hold of 6011s for pipeliners, like Fleetweld 5P+. They are designed for very high speed of welding. But I thought Lincoln only made gray 6010 rods. Maybe they make 5P+ 6011 too.

A:  The color of the flux does not mean much of anything. 6011 welding rods come in several different colors. The color doesn't matter, it's the number that matters.
