Answer This Question

A:  The device will always draw leakage current as it is needed to operate properly.

A:  When the switched off only 1/2 the receptacle is off the other will remain constant. I believe it is the upper that is labeled "Controlled" that will go on and off with the app. There will always be full power going to the receptacle.

A:  Two of mine do the same thing. It is a design flaw from what I can tell. Return it and get the GE ones.

A:  The only thing I see that's different is that the second is tamper proof. Funny that it's less money for an additional feature. They'll both work identically.

      by|May 4, 2023

A:  The suffixes refer to the packaging type. The models are functionally identical.

      by|May 4, 2023

A:  Dear JollyZebra: Good question! The "R02" version is NOT tamper resistant. The "R03" version IS tamper resistant. Tamper resistance is good for safety with small children, and required by the latest update to the electrical code -- so always buy the R03 version. I hope this is helpful. Mark

A:  The description says it works with Smart Things. I don't know about Google Home. I use it with a Wink hub and the Amazon Echo, and it works just fine.

        A:  Yes

        by|May 5, 2023

A:  Yes, it can be used with Google home and the smartthings hub. I have both. Echo works better then Google though.

          by|May 5, 2023

A:  The device usesZ-wave to communicate, so it will work with SmartThings, but I don't believe Google Home natively supports Z-wave equipment directly at the moment, so you may need to contact them for confirmation.

Q:can it be programmed as timer ,to turn on and off on daily bases...?

              Answer This Question

A:  The outlet itself, no. But you must have a hub, like Wink or Smart Things in order to communicate with it. With those, you can set schedules, both individually for each outlet or switch, or group them together. I use the Wink, and have several of these. They work great.

              by|May 4, 2023

A:  Yes, and combined in groups. I have them set to turn on at 5pm and off at midnight for Christmas lights. I also use one as a fish tank light timer. No batteries to change, no time to set. Love them.

              by|May 5, 2023

A:  You need a controller for such devices. With a controller you can set schedules that respect DLST and even that are based on sunrise and sunset. Winks is one such controller.

                by|May 4, 2023

A:  That is dependent on the Z-wave programmer or hub you use to control your Z-wave network.

A:  I use the Samsung smartthings hub. There's no limit to the number of devices. You'll use the smartthings app to set up control, rooms, scene etc. You can tell the app, if I turn on the kitchen light, also turn on this outlet and turn on the kitchen table light and turn off the bedroom light. It's nearly unlimited. You should be able to use the wink hub too. It's zwave, so any hub that can talk to zwave is what you need.

                  by|May 5, 2023

A:  1) All Z-wave devices need to enrolled into a Z-wave network before they can be controlled wirelessly. If you don't have a Z-wave programmer, you may want to look into the a hub like Wink or SmartThings. 2) You can control as many devices as your programmer can handle (usually 64-128), although you may experience slower response times at the higher end 3) Hub is used to program the network and control all the Z-wave traffic. 4) There are many options to look into so you may want to to research which work best for your needs.

A:  Joshua, I have used these for some outdoor lighting (Christmas) and you will need a Hub as far as I know to operate these. I have been using Wink for over a year to control these types of devices along with a list of other approved devices. I find that Wink is the most versatile of all home automation products and it works well with Amazon Alexa as well! Once you have each outlet synced with Wink you can then either create a group to control them together as well as still being able to control them separately. The Wink app is available for free and the hub is right around $100 and has a fantastic range. My Wink Hub 2 is located at the back of the house and the plugs are on the outside front (furthest point) and paired to the Hub 2 quickly and easily. Wink work with a large range of brand products, you won't be disappointed. Do not get the basic Wink Hub go the extra few bucks and do teh Wink Hub 2. Far reach range, I upgraded recently and was able to go to a single hub (from two) for my 1800 sq ft home, and I have almost 40 devices connected.

                        by|May 4, 2023

A:  It's on or off. Just like buying the wall switches, you but a switch or a dimmer. You'd have to get a plug in dimmer, I've gotten them from Ikea, and dim it there, but you can't control the dimming unless it's a dimming wall switch. I tell my light's to come on at sunset, 100%, at 8pm, dim to 50%, at 10pm, change all dimmers to 20%

A:  Dear Ben: Yes, but only if you (a) use an new weatherproof outdoor recep box that is well sealed, and (b) install a GFCI breaker in the panel -- to protect this circuit. Better yet, install a combo AFCI / GFCI breaker for superior protection. Home Depot carries both 15 amp and 20 amp versions. A:  A song as you put it in an outdoor rated box with an outdoor rated cover, it will work. I plan to put one on my porch for outdoor decorations.

                              by|May 4, 2023

A:  The switch is designed for indoor use only, and is not considered weather-resistant. A weather-resistant box, and GFCI breaker would help make the setup safer, but it would still be an unsupported application.

A:  I did, but it's not replacing the actual gfci. I think they make one.
