Q:will it take concrete stain/paint or maintain gray?

Answer This Question

A:  NO

by|May 10, 2020

A:  No caulk will allow staining after application. I would suggest filling the cracks with cement (No gravel) and then stain. I would also warn you that unless the stain is fairly dark, the areas that were cracked will likely be at least slightly different in color than the rest of the existing concrete.

by|May 10, 2020

A:  Not meant for concrete. Will stain through.

Q:will this remain sticky if it is above the level of the crack and come off on shoes and car tires? It appears that it can be forced into cracks with a scraper but that will also spread a thin layer on the surface of the blacktop.

A:  After 2 days of cure in my latest application debris that blows onto it does not stick. A blower blows it right off. I doubt you need to worry about that.

A:  A thin layer as you describer will be ok. Do not over apply as a build up of crack filler on the surface could track on a hot summer day.

A:  I have used this for minor cracks and for a major buildup area like a slope and also to fill areas where the asphalt met the grass. It dries hard. I used a scraper, like for plaster, to scrape it even. Once it dries, you may want to add a layer if it shrinks down. I also have used the licorice like plastic strips for bigger holes and cracks (requires a propane torch) and that works well too. The sloping area I built up with the tube stuff is still perfect after several years. I also used it to strike a line between my blacktop and the road, and feathered it back into the blacktop for a smooth transition--also still perfect. If you try the rope and propane, don't breath the smoke--wear a mask.

A:  Assuming your driveway is asphalt, this product would fit the bill well. You could, however get good results with a quality exterior latex caulk which would likely be less expensive.

A:  HD has a product that is like a black licorice rope that can be put into major cracks. You need a propane torch to heat it and melt it into the crack. I had a torch pole to burn grass but you can use a propane can and a short nozzle. The plastic rope comes in at least two widths but the thinner stuff is fine, just keep filling the crack. DO NOT inhale the fumes--wear at least a dust mask. As you fill the crack, it will level off. At that point I used a spatula--like for plaster--to go over the joint and smooth it down. I have used this rope to fill cracks, build up a large area between my drive and a lower brick walkway, and where a cable cut crossed my driveway. Works better and longer than a liquid filler, However, the liquid filler may work fine but I would use some, let it dry, then repeat, versus filling all at once. The rope is easier to use than it might sound, but again--don't inhale the fumes.

A:  It somewhat depends on how deep the crack you are filling is, but typically you are ready to go in 2-3 hours.

A:  I used a plastic trowel and work it just as it came out of the tube, keep the trowel angle against the tip of the tube when applying it the pressure will force it into the crack.

A:  I found this works well on 1/4 to 1/2 inch cracks very well and the liquid crack filler to work better on narrow less than 1/8inch cracks.

A:  no, acrylic paint will not bond. Only asphalt based products will adhere.

                        by|May 4, 2023

A:  Dunno'. I'd be concerned that the asphalt nature of the product would bleed through any paint. If you're gonna' paint i you're probably better off with a caulking, like Lexel or a paintable polyurethane like Sikaflex. This also does shrink, making painting more problematic.

A:  In order for the product to fully cure, the temperature needs to stay about 55 degrees for 24 hours. Sunlight and ground temperature have a lot to do with curing rates.

A:  Yes it is water clean up as long as you do that before it dries on your clothes, hands, trowels, etc. I found after it dries, go-jo hand cleaner works very well on your hands and tools & nafta bar soap works well scrubbed on your clothes or gloves before machine washing them works well on those items. Neither of these works all that well on cement adjoiniing your driveway surfaces even before it drys (I learned the hard way to masking tape those edges before applying this crack filler or liquid crack filler!)

A:  The product is an asphalt emulsion, with latex additives. When wet, the product is water soluble, but when dry mineral spirits will be necessary to remove.
