Q:Is the drain body and tube plastic or brass? It looks plastic but the spec sheet states "brass."
If plastic, how durable is this drain? If it cracks ir will cause a lot of water damage.

A: The only metal on this apart from the screws is the grate on the top. If you look closely at the picture the words "GRAY PVC" are written on the side of the top. The bottom is also plastic where it glues up to the drain pipes for the sewer. I installed this a few years ago. Its nice just making straight cuts in the tile surrounding it. Hope this helps. Great product.

A: Hi Rob, this is Sarah with Kohler Co. I'm glad to answer your question. The exposed parts of the drain are metal and the drain body is made of plastic. You should have no concerns with the plastic on the drain pipe cracking. Once it is properly installed, there is no tension or movable parts that would cause it to crack. Thank you for choosing Kohler.

A: Yes. Just remove the two screws and the grate will lift out.

A: I have had this for several years and no problem removing the grate and cleaning out hair.

A: Remove two Phillips head screws to get the grate off. The screws are pretty small and could easily be dropped down the drain. I guess one could leave the screws off... that would make it easy to remove the grate... but one might stub their toe or twist an ankle if the grate got dislodged while taking a shower.

A: It depends on what you consider easy. You would need to remove the 2 face screws then use something to slide down the pipe and pull hair out.

A: Hi SS, this is Sarah with Kohler Customer Service. I'm glad to answer your question. The grid drain on this drain can be removed once the screws are un-threaded from the grid. This will allow you to clean out the drain area. Thank you for choosing KOHLER.
