Answer This Question
A: TomM, thank you for your question. The LPBS36JD can spread sand; however, it is not recommended with this spreader. This spreader works best for seeds, fertilizers, and ice melts. If you have any questions, please reach out to customer service at 877.728.8224

Q:How can you tell when its empty, ie, has run out of material to spread? Is the only way just to look inside the hopper? Can you see inside the hopper from the seat of the mower (eg, John Deere Z530M)?

Q:The written description lists your minimum spread at 2 ft., but the spec table lists 8 ft. Which is it? I need to be able to go down to 6 ft. to miss planting areas on either side of a roadway.

Answer This Question
A: Hello Washington Nursery, and thank you for the question. The LPBS36JD has a maximum spread width of 8-10 ft, depending on the material you are spreading. This is based on a three mph pull speed, and the speed that is what your spread rates are calculated. The slower you go, the less of a spread width you will have. This spreader is equipped with a directional control plate to help control the spread pattern, helping you from spreading in unwanted areas. Please see the manual on how to adjust for this setting. https://images.thdstatic.com/catalog/pdfImages/bd/bd9d405d-00c0-5a29-be65-b794d70a3853.pdf. Q:Can you spread topsoil with this unit?
Thanks!

Answer This Question
A: Hello maxtn and thank you for the question. The BS36JD is best used for grass seed and fertilizing spreading. The inconsistency with the different brands of topsoil on the market will make it difficult to spread evenly. I would recommend looking for a tow-behind spreader that is more for farm size application to allow the topsoil to spread evenly. I hope this will help you out!

Q:Is this spreader compatible with the S240?

Answer This Question
A: Hello MrBurg and yes your John Deere S240 will accommodate the spreader. You will just need to attach the spreader to your hitch plate on the back via a clevis and pin (included with the BS36JD). You will get many years of use from both items. I hope this will help you and enjoy the projects!
