Q:DOES THIS MACHINE ACCEPT R-8 COLLETS FOR MILLING APPLICATIONS?

Answer This Question

A:  The simple answer is yes. The long answer is to install R8 collets you should start with an R8 collet kit as you will need an R8 shank to insert the collet into. R8 is the spindle type. The shank goes in the spindle, R8 shanks use collets made for these shanks so they got called R8 collets. The alternative is Morse taper which uses end-mill holders. You drop the shank with factory installed 1/2 inch chuck and install the R8 shank for holding collets. It's just one bolt at the top that holds the shank. Super easy.

Q:What is the total depth I can drill

        Answer This Question

A:  Depth is determined by spindle travel which is 5 inches. The 1.5 drill capacity in the spec, which is also referenced in the other answers, is the max diameter hole the machine can handle. Note the hole size (drill capacity) is not the same as chuck size, meaning it is about power which also makes it somewhat subjective as material, speed, cutting tool quality, technique,... are all factors.

A:  the other answer has to be wrong. From the looks of the Depth indicator on the front looks like its about 5". Obviously you can use the handle behind the light to raise the head up in down to get it closer the base to use the milling feature.
