      A:  Doors between attached garages and living spaces are not required to be fire rated (per the current IRC). One of the types of acceptable doors is a 20 minute fire rated door. R302.5.1 Opening protection. -Openings from a private garage directly into a room used for sleeping purposes shall not be permitted. Other openings between the garage and residence shall be equipped with solid wood doors not less than 1-3/8 inches (35 mm) in thickness, solid or honeycomb-core steel doors not less than 1-3/8 inches (35 mm) thick, or 20-minute fire-rated doors, equipped with a self-closing device.

          Q:This is the door I need, but I was hoping to find one that is simply primed, not painted. If I buy this door in white will it be relatively straightforward to prime it myself and paint with my own custom color?
