A: The unit will be too large for your opening. Your opening needs to be 1/2" bigger to fit the frame size of the unit you are installing.

A: Hadn't really considered this but I just checked and I don't see anything that would prevent it - should still slide pretty well. However, it is designed to drain water away from the bottom edge only with a sloped edge and presumably weep holes. If the window is protected from rain, say by a pronounced overhang, it might work OK. And the counterweight cords would be more exposed than you might want.
