A: The dimension is 16 3/16 from the top of the bottom shelf to the upper piece of wood runner under the top. We finished it with stain and urethane prior to assembly which we felt made it much easier. Simple assembly is required.

A: 16" from the top of the bottom shelf to the bottom of the upper apron. It comes unassembled in 4 pieces (top, 2 sides, bottom shelf) and was fairly easy to finish - I spray painted the individual pieces before assembling.
