Questions and Answers for International Concepts Unfinished Bench

A:  The apron is connected to the top. Not removable.

A:  You need some kind of apron for support of the top, maybe inch and half, otherwise it may warp. You probably could cut apron down

A:  The valance comes attached to the top and provides a lot structural support. I would not advise it. If someone has a table saw and wood working skills it could be cut down though. The height between the top of the bottom shelf and the bottom of the valance is 8.25" at the narrowest point and 9.375" at the higher point. It's a very solid bench.

A:  Those aprons are permanently attached. You might be able to saw them off, but it would be a headache. Besides, they add strength to the piece.

A:  Putting this pieced together was so easy that I can't remember how it is assembled. I would leave the back piece/apron as it is to give the piece more structure. We have been very happy with this bench. It is good solid wood and a nice addition to our small guest room.

A:  There are no feet or adjustable bottoms.

A:  Not sure what kind of wood it is- but I can say it’s very sturdy - not a soft wood. Looks great w. stain and paint!

A:  The bench is made of parawood, which is also known as rubberwood.

A:  Asian hardwood. Looks like maple.

A:  I don't know. All I know it is supposed to be a sustainable harvested hard wood.

A:  Mary, I don't think this is carried in the stores. But we ordered the matching table knowing that if we didn't like it, we could just take it back to the store and not have to worry about shipping it back. It only took two days to arrive. Very happy with the table, and we plan on ordering this bench.

A:  It comes pre sanded in a natural wood color. You can paint it.

A:  Because the buyers used different stain colors. You have an option of not staining it and just putting on a finish coat for protection, or you can use one of many stain choices out there to match your taste. I used a General Finish stain called Antique Oak on my International Concepts Shaker table, and you can see how it looks in the attached photo.

A:  Unfinished rubberwood is naturally a very light honey color. One of the photos just has bad lighting.

A:  I think it's pretty high. My husband and I sit on it at the same time and together we weigh about 400 lbs.

A:  As long as the height is 8 1/4" or less. i have 3 baskets on the shelf.

A:  Yes, depending on the height of it. The bottom shelf is 30" wide and 12.5" deep. The height of the space above the shelf is 9.5" at the middle and 8.5 inches on the edges.

A:  The space between the shelf and the top faceplate bottom is 9.25 inches. Inside it is 12.5 inches from top to bottom. The shelf width by length is 12.5 x 30 inches.

A:  It is 18" high, 14" deep and 39" long.
