A: Yes, we put it in the wall next to our patio door, and it looks and works really well. I would get this door again.

A: If it was really determined, I suppose. Raccoon more likely. My cat goes in and out with no problem. Double flap keeps wind out very well.

A: Absolutely

A: Well, there is nothing that would prevent a snake from pushing through if so determined
by|May 31, 2022
A: Yes. As long as it’s not too high off the floor, your pet snake should be able to use it no problem.

A: I have a 70 lb 11 year old German shepherd with bad hips and he uses it with no problem. I actually have two... one from the yard to the garage and another into the house. I would say a large would work and puppies are putting good at scrambling up until big enough to use it. I also like that it seals. I have less dust and dirt coming in.

A: Use the shoulder height measurements in the details section. Dogs don't like to scrape their parts on the door as they go through, so I usually order up a size. I have installed 5 or 6 of these over the years. If you get the double flap one, your house doesn't get cold breezes inside. You do have to clean off magnets though!

A: We installed the Large door for our medium-sized 65lb. Shepherd mix and it works well. The key is installing the dog door at the right height for your dog. Watch the helpful "How to" installation video on Home Depot's site and follow instructions included with the dog door, which are simple and straight forward. If mounting through a wall, you'll also need the Wall Kit.

A: We would recommend the Large flap size (9.75" x 17")

A: I bought this for my gsm dogs. I bought the xl because they were on the border of the weight/size scale. I would order the size that will be easiest for your dog to get out in case of fire or another emergency. The dual flap system works fantastic to keep the weather out and seals nicely, and if it’s bitter cold and snowy just put the hard door on and it will allow you to regulate when your dogs are outside so you can keep an eye on them. Good luck!

Q:My current dog door has a solid hard panel which slides into rails in the inside of the dog door to lock out all critters, strong winds, etc.
How does this dog door lock to effectively block the opening?

A: The Ruff Weather animal lock out slide operates exactly the same way.
A: Yes you can. It is the best doggie door we have ever had. It really keeps the cold weather out in the winter and the cool air in when the air conditioning is on in the summer.

A: You can but it?s almost cheaper and more convenient to just buy a whole new door every time. If you only have to replace one flap which is rarely the case, it may be cheaper but the replacements I?ve purchased, have never fit just right.

Q:what tools are needed to install this ?

Answer This Question
A: It's been a couple years since I installed 2 of these in my home. The tools needed will depend on the wall that you are installing it into. I have a home that is stucco on the outside. The biggest issue is getting the hole on the inside of your home and the outside of your home to line up perfectly. I had problems with the bolts that were provided so I purchased longer bolts in order to get them to connect. Basically you will need something to cut the drywall, something to cut the outside material, {wood saw or stucco saw), level, screwdriver, wrench or pliers. Getting the holes cut level and even on the inside and the outside are the most important issues. It was frustrating getting the bolts all connected but much better if done with 2 people. Hope this helps.

A: I installed mine through a wall (additional insert required), so I needed a circular saw for that. A jig saw could be used depending on what you are cutting through. Other than that, it just screws together with the four screws.

Q:What do I do with the weather stripping? There are no directions for it but you recommend it

Answer This Question
A: Sandy, the weather stripping is for the outside portion of the dog door where it mounts to your exterior surface and assist with creating a 100% weather barrier. After I have installed them I also use 100% silicone to create a weather tight barrier on the outside frame edge

A: I think its for the out side flange if the house if not flat so that I cuts down on air leaks.
