      Answer This Question

A:  Nominal house voltage is considered to be 110V so 1200 watts divided by 110 volts = 10.9 amps Your breaker may be tripping from other stuff drawing on it at the same time and/or the "startup/inrush" current when you turn it on...

A:  1200 watts should take no more than about 10 amps at 120V. Since these are Halogen bulbs, the cold current (inrush current) can be up to about 10 times as much for a short time. If you have another load or a fast acting 15 amp breaker, it may well trip. It is also possible that your line voltage is low. If that happens, the filament in the lamp will not get hot enough for the current to go down, again, the circuit breaker will blow. Check to make sure you have adequate line voltage and make sure there are no other loads. Use a different circuit, if possible one rated at 20 amps.
