    Q:we are only in the house one month in the summer but the de humidifier needs to be on all year. We will set up automatic draining to the outside. Does it require regular maintenance? Is it a problem that no one is there?

    A:  I had this unit for almost two years. The only maintenance that would be required is cleaning the washable filter (for me every 3 months). However, I have heard that the pump always falls. Thus, I wouldn't turn on the pump and let the unit drain by gravity. Also, if you would have internet at your house during this time, it would a good idea to invest in a wireless water leak detector sensor and smart plug. Place the water leak detector next to the unit. Incase of any leak, you can shutoff the unit by disconnecting the smart plug remotely until you have a physical access to the unit.

              A:  My experience with any of these types of units has been 2 to 5 yrs. An extended warranty can save you some money on replacement. They don't seem to be made to last like a refrigerator.
