Q:I only need the frame without the slats. Are the slats removable or are they permanently attached to the frame?

A:  The slats are not attached. It comes in a box the size of the headboard and needs assembly.

    A:  Yes, I think there are six. That being said this is poorly made. It is actually.wider than a twin mattress. The paint was drippy and there was a scratch on it.
