A: I'm not sure about that...ask us stove company if that is an option..I just use an instant read one or a probe type that goes outside.

A: We do recommend covering the unit or leaving in a covered area.

A: I would say no not to protected..but the optional cover is worth it..I have a small canopy that does the job during rain.
