Q:I have a metal roof that's beginning to have surface rust can you recommend the best products and information on the product and how to apply
by|Sep 19, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Walt, if you are going to apply Henry 887Gray TropiCool 100% Silicone you will need to apply a rust inhibitor to the rusted areas prior to coating with Henry 887G. You can apply Henry 555 Fibered Aluminum or Henry 869 Rubberized Aluminum after you wash the rusted areas since both of them are rust encapsulating. (Henry 869 Rubberized Aluminum is not available in the state of California).

Q:What kind of prep work is required to apply this product to a older mobile home roof? The roof in question is a metal roof that has in been overlaid with Peel&Seal Vynl roofing material. Naturally I would sweep the roof of any loose dust/dirt, etc.

    Answer This Question

A:  Paul, you will need to wash the roof with water using a nozzle with a strong spray and then let the roof surface dry. Since this is not a surface that we normally encounter you should do a couple of adhesion tests. Select a couple of areas on the roof and apply about 1 square foot of Henry TropiCool to the surface and let it cure for several days. Try to peel off the Henry 887 and see if you have good adhesion. If you are satisfied with how well it sticks then go ahead and coat the entire roof surface.

Q:My intention is to apply this product on a corrugated metal roof. How much coverage can I expect out of a 5 gallon bucket?
      by|Sep 9, 2023
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  Mike, the normal coverage rate for Henry 887 Gray TropiCool 100% Silicone is 1.5 gallons per 100 square feet so you should expect about 320 square feet out of a 4.75 Gallon bucket. For rougher surfaces the coverage will vary somewhat.

        Answer This Question

A:  Nader, it is unclear from your comments whether you used Henry 587 Dura-Brite acrylic white coating or Henry 887 TropiCool 100% Silicone coating? Henry 887 TropiCool is a waterproof coating immediately out out the bucket and will not wash off the roof. Q:I plan to coat 2 layers of 887G on my 10n+ year old roof, was coated with aluminium roof coating. How many hours should I wait before I do the second layer?
          by|Aug 20, 2023
          1 Answer
          Answer This Question

A:  ShelC, you can add the second coat as soon as soon as the first coat is cured which is 2 to 6 hours depending on the humidity. The higher the humidity the faster Henry TropiCool will cure.

Q:What will happen at colder temperatures? Will it crack and fall off? It very occasionally gets to be freezing here and the min temp on the paint is 35' F. We're getting more extreme weather. Also, please confirm this works with slanted asphalt roofs.

            Answer This Question

A:  Rand, when it says "minimum temperature" that refers to the temperature when you apply the Henry 887 TropiCool. The service temperature for 887 is -40 degrees to 180 degrees. You should have no worries about TropiCool's performance on your roof. Henry TropiCool can be applied to low slope roofs but should never be used on a shingled roof.

Q:I had to completely strip the roof of an RV and replace all the wood substrate. Replaced with 3/8 in plywood sheathing. Can I put this product directly onto the plywood without putting on a membrane?
              by|Aug 9, 2023
              1 Answer
              Answer This Question

A:  Troy, although people have applied Henry TropiCool 887 100% Silicone directly to wood, we don't recommend it and it would void the warranty. The wood on the roof is meant to be a substrate that a roofing product is applied to such as fiberglass, metal, EPDM or a TPO like product. Since the roof protects everything underneath is is best to apply a roofing material as opposed to a roof coating.

                Answer This Question

Q:Is it possible to use this on all exterior surfaces of an RV not just the roof?
                  by|Jul 16, 2023
                  1 Answer
                  Answer This Question

A:  Curious, we do not recommend coating the vertical sides of the RV with Henry 887 TropiCool and would not be able to warranty it for that purpose. Since it is a thick product it would have a tendency to slump and be thicker on the bottom than the top. That being said, it won't hurt the RV but may not give you the look you would want.

A:  Jimpags657, you can use Henry 887 100% Silicone Roof coating on a cement roof. You will need to lightly pressure wash the roof or use a hose nozzle with a good strong spray to remove all of the dust and dirt first. Once the roof is thoroughly dry you can apply Henry 887 to the roof.
