Q:do I need a flange fitting to connect the termination to a shutoff valve
by|Sep 12, 2023

Answer This Question
A: Hi, kmmouse - If we understand your question correctly, we'd recommend use of a 1/2" termination flange in place of this male adapter. One may install a shutoff valve directly on the termination flange and an appliance connector from the termination flange to the appliance. A: Hi, Billy - Pipe compound or yellow Teflon tape should be used only on the IPS threads. Not on the brass-to-brass threads of the fitting. Check out our CSST Design & Installation Manual available at homeflex.com/resources. Thanks.

A: You do not need to apply pipe dope or tape to brass connections, however, I have had small leaks with these pieces i the past and a little dope took care of it.

A: Hi, Timmy - As mentioned in our Design & Installation Manual (available on homeflex.com), CSST should NOT be exposed to direct sunlight for a prolonged period of time. We suggest it be protected by a non-metallic conduit (like PVC pipe) that is at least 1/2" larger than the OD of the CSST. Further, there should be no fittings (tube only) inside the conduit.

A: Hi, Rich - Yes, HOME-FLEX CSST brass fittings can be re-used after initial installation. You should, however, change out the hard fiber washer. A 1/2" / 3/4" combo repair kit is available at Home Deport for about $6.

Q:Does this pipe produce a whistling noise as the gas passes through it?
by|Dec 6, 2021

Answer This Question
A: Hi, Marcs - No there should not be any whistling as gas passes through the brass adapter. However, some whistling may be present through the CSST tubing itself if the pressure/flow is at the tube's peak capacity. This situation can be rectified by either upsizing the tubing or decreasing the flow of gas.
by|Dec 8, 2021
A: If you haven't sized the pipe correctly for the load it can whistle. If load is large and pipe is not sized accordingly and 2 psi is used to maxize gas line length there is a possibility of pipe whistling.

Answer This Question
A: Hi, Tlc - In accordance with the National Fuel Gas Code and Uniform Plumbing Code, a minimum of 6g bonding wire MUST always be used to connect the CSST and/or CSST/Black Iron assembly back to the grounding bus bar in the electrical enclosure. A bonding clamp is necessary to provide a secure connection.
