A: the guide slot that is straight from one side to the other is use to make a square cut making sure the end of the piece is straight. If you are referring to the slots that are at an angle vertically this is to make a 45 degree cut for base to match up in the corners. Go to youtube for a visual this will be very helpful

A: The product has a dropped edge so that it can hang over the edge of a table reducing the chance of it rotating. If you tried to place this in the middle of a flat surface it would not be level.

A: Hello Kalila, the answer to your question can be a tricky one, this item can be hard to use depending on your skill level it is very light and can be hard to hold in place depending on the type of wood that you are cutting hard woods are harder to cut so I recommend getting help holding it or fasten it down good. Cutting angles can be tricky so remember the old saying measure twice cut once the only one that benefits from a bad cut is the lumber yard, good luck

A: Yes, the side walls for 45 degree side cuts are 2" tall. For all other straight angle cuts, the sidewalls are 2.25" tall
