We could not warranty a direct application. However, we do have a nail up version of the panel that could be used to apply directly to a substrate. The tiles do not have a flat backing so we suggest nailing and not using adhesive. However, over time if exposed to too much or constant direct water contact the panels may begin to rust. You can use any acrylic enamel paint, spray might be the easiest to apply. Be sure to test on back side of panel first to ensure you like the overall appearance prior to applying to entire panel. A:  Thank you for your interest in using our Jamestown 2 ft. x 2 ft. Lay-in Tin Ceiling tiles in Matte White. The panels can be cut using a tin snips for installation purposes. While not necessary for installation purpose, you can use a border tile to fill out the perimeter of your room if you prefer not to cut the tiles themselves. However, with our Jamestown style it is not necesarry for installation purposes. Both our Great Lakes Tin and Fasade panels could provide you with the materials you would need for your installation. The unfinished tiles are the color of organic tin, which is a silvery white finish in color.
